As "Guerras da Encriptação" na era digital já vêm desde os anos 70. O #ChatControl é apenas o episódio mais recente.
Em 2021 publicámos dois artigos sobre a história das #CryptoWars:
➡️Introdução às Crypto Wars da era digital
➡️A encriptação e a Internet

AFAIK the current number of devices with somewhat working cameras is still short:
- #librem5
- #pinephone
- #pinephonepro
- #thinkpadx13s
However there was great progress to pave the way for more devices - and apparently the #pocophonef1 will be next, see https://fosstodon.org/@joelselvaraj/112621744555315631
So looking forward to what this cycle brings :)
postmarketOS Now Boots on Over 250 Devices
Every year, as consumers gobble up the latest Android devices, more old, but perfectly serviceable, units end up collecting dust in drawers. Or worse, they end up getting tossed in …read more

PostmarketOS v24.06 released
Initially #feedbackd supported a set of color names (that matched the LED color) as multicolor LED support was still in the makings in the kernel. With the next release you can use arbitrary RGB colors (#RRGGBB). On single color
leds we still fall back to that color.
…and it helps on devices that don't have a status LED at all (in these case we can even tweak the device specific theme for that (e.g. to reduce the flash brightness):

#feedbackd uses the 📱's notification 💡 on events like missed phone calls, notifications, etc to alert the user.
Thanks to @dylanvanassche this now supports hw-pattern LEDs (currently for devices using the qcom-lpg LED driver found in various📱).
This doesn't only free the CPU from processing the blink patterns but more importantly allows us to keep the LEDs blinking in suspend so we have another missing piece in place to make suspend work nicely.
#wireplumber 0.5.3 has been released \o/
As a reminder: #wireplumber is the session manager and therefore the "brain" of #PipeWire. The later is intentionally kept simple, not handling anything policy related.
The version has one fix I'm particular happy about:
Fixed camera device deduplication logic when the same device is available
through both V4L2 and libcamera, and the libcamera one groups multiple V4L2
devices together.

Gnome Search on a smartphone is a killer feature. You can do so much useful stuff and customize everything to your liking.
Some tips: https://itsfoss.com/gnome-search/
libcamera v0.3.0 has been released with new features, including the first version of SoftISP support for Qualcomm and (soon) the Intel IPU6.
The NXP i.MX8MP platform is now officially supported with its ISP.
Additionally, we have support for the new Arm Mali-C55 ISP with a dedicated pipeline handler, and MediaTek MT8365 in the simple pipeline handler.
New camera support includes Sony IMX283, IMX335, and IMX415.
See the release notes here: https://lists.libcamera.org/pipermail/libcamera-devel/2024-May/041990.html
Starlink is killing Hubble
Something about this plan to move Hubble, didn't make sense. If the telescope still has 10 years of useful life, why the need for SpaceX to boost it's orbit now?
Well it turns out the main thing threatening the utility of Hubble is... wait for it... SpaceX Starlink satellites, which orbit just above Hubble constantly "photo-bombing" the images. Within a few years there will be so many Starlinks that Hubble will be useless.

#OtD 19 May 1933 Germany's Nazi government abolished collective bargaining – the principle of workers collectively negotiating with employers over pay and conditions. Instead, conditions were to be regulated by labour "trustees", appointed by Hitler https://t.co/xxuGS1maBC https://stories.workingclasshistory.com/article/9129/nazis-abolish-collective-bargaining?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=mastodon
Do I know anyone here who daily drives #LinuxMobile / #postmarketOS on their main/only phone and would be willing to share their experience?
Yes, there really *was* an 'anti-booing system' at #Eurovsion - this is *not' a conspiracy theory - and it was used during the #Israel performance. And the #Portugal performer had nail-art in support of #Palestine which the EBU tried to hide. "Portugal’s broadcaster accuses #EBU of #discrimination for not posting iolanda’s performance over Palestinian-inspired nail art
"Nicolau Santos from #RTP also commented on the anti-booing system and the fake applause used by the EBU during Israel’s performance, stating:
“For an organization like the EBU, and for an organization like RTP and the European public media service whose flag is the fight against fake news, misinformation, and information manipulation, it is unacceptable that this is possible. Using this method distorts reality.”

It seems to have happened without much fanfare, but about a month ago @purism has released the Librem 5 hardware layouts under GPLv3 (as original PADS and converted KiCad projects), joining the schematics that were already available from the start.
