@liw I think for folks that are really new there's still some fundamentals missing. in particular "self-contained" and "no bundled libraries" don't really make sense without an understanding that Debian fundamentally cares about its users' experience more than it cares about upstreams - that's why it offers stability guarantees and that's why it has its own security team that doesn't like bundled libraries, as opposed to having no/a significantly smaller security team and a reliance on upstreams to bump vendored libraries when appropriate.
there's a healthy amount of distrust of upstreams' processes in Debian and that's a feature. but that can be hard to understand as a newcomer who's wondering why all the software is so old.
Hard to avoid this conclusion.

The fact that container package formats like #snap and #flatpak can somewhat contain the damages from bad code or bad coding practices should not be perceived as a license nor a permit to continue having bad software development and coding practices.
Yes this is a small rant after a convo where talking about a bad software practice someone says;
That is why flatpak is good, it isolates the system from that.

Had the need to charge an all electric Kia recently and guess what: both the charging stations app and the vendor's app are proprietary so how would I know when charging finished?
Turns out people around #HomeAssistant figured out the vendor API so I could use that to have a small app to monitor the charging status on my #Librem5 running #phosh

Due to the issue with mailserver which took longer then expect and carried additional stress package exceeding the daily norm, we moved nextcloud update for tomorrow. And so 21.09.2023 around midnight we will be running nextcloud update which can cause downtime of an hour or so (depending how long the update will take).
Once, this is done we will update the changelog with information about today and tomorrow’s updates. Consider it Maintenance window #50b
