A casual reminder that @Framasoft almost exclusively lives on donations.

Do you value their technical work: @peertube, @mobilizon and many smaller contributions to various projects?

Do you value their fantastic social work which encourages citizens and organisations to emancipate themselves from bad actors?

Then you can support their work financially on soutenir.framasoft.org/en !

This week in NeoChat we had a mini-sprint in Berlin, improved our settings and fixed tons of papercut. Read it at carlschwan.eu/2021/10/22/this-

Checking if I had "Trump starting a Mastodon server" on my bingo card

Just in time for the upcoming 41.1 GNOME Calls release, here is an updated Anti-Spam program, now with a much friendlier GUI!

I still marked it as a Beta, so tester's wanted!

Adaptive version of running on on the . This is still a work in progress, some issues still need to be solved before releasing this. But again; “hey it’s progress” :D.
Credits to @KekunPlazas fr his work on this.

Insightful. We can't repeat often enough that @mobian , @debian , @postmarketOS , @manjarolinux and others would not be where they are now, without @purism adopting a cooperative upstreaming policy. We would wager that everyone purchasing a (true) Linux device now, benefits from your investments. There is plenty to criticize and nag about you 😝, but you are doing the whole FOSS community a service that could not easily be replicated by volunteers.

This is convergence; the same software stack across devices and your user/app data working across devices.

Recently flashed my with byzantium. And wanted to restore the data for the apps I use on the (podcasts, rss feed, mastodon account, online radios, email). I simply copied the directories of those apps from my laptop home folder to the home folder, and it was all there, and all the apps worked.
Yes, I know that for linux users the idea of syncing data across home folders is normal. But it still feels kinda cool to be able to do that between a laptop and a phone.

Spent the morning looking how much work the move of to / will be and it turned out better than expected.

Needed to stub out some dependencies (libcall-ui, gcr, libgnome-desktop) and hack back support for custom wayland surfaces into but with that things start to work and we can go widget by widget:

After 36 hours on a bus from Portugal back to Germany, my ears hurt from the rubber bands of the mask.
On the up side, first night after arriving in Germany slept a lot. Haven't slept that many hours in a long time. :D
Down side: It was about 30ºC in Portugal when I traveled back to cold Germany.

We pay to Steam, Netflix, Amazon prime, Spotify. But not to Wikipedia, Archive.org, Librivox, Project Gutenberg, for our favourite Linux distro.

The huge asymmetry between corporate and community has not emerged naturally. It is a product of our choices of not supporting community oriented projects.

The short conveniences vs the long-term good. We always chose the former.

In face of surveillance capitalism, we must and must change.

Is anyone using tootle on the mastodon.online instance?

On the prompt that opens in the browser neither clicking authorize nor deny does seem to do anything (the status bar says loading for a few seconds, but that's about it)

Hey all! I’ve been working hard to get the #Podcast up and running. I think I’m FINALLY at a point where I’m ready to go.

The first episode is already live and ready for you. It’s a little old now, due to setup, but it’s definitely still relevant!

Did you know @awai (the founder of @mobian) plays Guitar, and has album called “Dirty Greed” up on band camp? Neither did I! The sound is hella tight. Links are in the video description and on the Podcast Homepage.

The Podcast #video is available here: https://media.kaitaia.life/w/2waGiHKoqD7Jmg3Nw3Vq81

The Podcast #Homepage is: https://pebkac.show

You can find the #RSS feeds for #MP3; #AAC; #OGG; #FLAC and #Opus are all listed clearly on the main page.

If you just want to skip all the hassle, you can grab the MP3 feed here: https://pebkac.show/web/feed/mp3/

A huge shoutout and thank you, goes out to @awai, for giving me some of his precious time for an interview. Also, @linmob for helping me decide on direction, and giving some sound advice along the way.

I’d really love to hear what you think, and let me know if there’s anything you think I could do to make it better!

Thanks so much!

PS. Please forgive the ping and hashtag stuffing! After this post, I’ll never do it again (unless someone wants me too 😉)

Holy crap, you made it this far! Dayum, that was unexpected. Well, if you feel like it, boosts are really appreciated!

At a job I had 4 years ago before leaving setup a server for automated backups and network shared folders. And documented everything about it, for whoever took maintenance of it. 4 years later they asked me help to solve a problem. I said: “that is described in the documentation I wrote 4 years ago.”
The reply was: “We had forgotten that documentation existed. It worked so well these last 4 years that we never read that doc and forgot it existed.”

Not sure if I should rant or rave.
