:ferris_wave: Hello World!

The Rust project now has an official presence on Mastodon! ✨

We'll be posting the same on our Twitter and Mastodon accounts, so you won't miss anything on either platform.

It's 2023 and there's still no caldav/carddav provider support in #gnome online-accounts. 😭️

I did just discover this new attempt to add it, so maybe there's still hope!

To protect your privacy and shield yourself against 0-days and malicious advertisers, an adblocker is an important part of your security stance.

The FBI, NSA, CISA, and UK National Cyber Security Centre all recommend adblocking as a protective measure.

You'd never disable your firewall or antivirus because a site asked you to. NEVER DO THIS WITH YOUR ADBLOCKER.

That's the only pertinent point here. Everything else is noise.

I've discovered how to handle phone calls 📞 via telepathy in #Amazfish! The code is from the GPLv3 project called Rockwork (Pebble UBports companion app). #OpenSourceRocks 💪

Proof of concept included! 🚀 Check it out here

Thanks @mjg59 !

Mobian started as a hobby project, triggered by the excitement of finally being able to hack one’s mobile phone at will. It is fair to say that the device that made it possible back then was the original PinePhone. However, after running once again into the same difficulties we experienced over and over, we’re wondering whether maintaining support for this device is still worth the effort…

@gnomeapps does it also allow to edit the permissions of a flatpak application similar to flatseal?

@fribbledom I once had a username: allnamesaretakenongithub

I never get tired of posting my phone running on the latest stable kernel. Props to @purism for doing all the hard work to maintain the #librem5 kernel and making it easy for @mobian to use it!

Around 2021, I would've considered going to Israel in the future if Netanyahu was ousted in the elections, and the extremist right-wing members of his government would go out with him and if there was a glimmer of hope of peace with Palestine. Instead, he's still there, and they continued ruthlessly murdering Palestinian civilians and confined them to Gaza, the biggest open-air prison in the world.

@liw I think for folks that are really new there's still some fundamentals missing. in particular "self-contained" and "no bundled libraries" don't really make sense without an understanding that Debian fundamentally cares about its users' experience more than it cares about upstreams - that's why it offers stability guarantees and that's why it has its own security team that doesn't like bundled libraries, as opposed to having no/a significantly smaller security team and a reliance on upstreams to bump vendored libraries when appropriate.

there's a healthy amount of distrust of upstreams' processes in Debian and that's a feature. but that can be hard to understand as a newcomer who's wondering why all the software is so old.
