Working on building a #LinuxLibre kernel for #MNTReform using #Guix ... and so far it boots!

Have not yet managed to build a kernel without the HDMI patches, which require a binary blob, so not in line with the #FSDG for inclusion into guix.

That said, it was not too difficult, using a few patches and .dts from source.mnt.re/reform/reform-de

Getting closer...

Ever wonder if your USB C cable is USB2 or USB3? Do you have some charge-only cables hiding in a box just waiting for the right moment to spoil your project plans?!
Fear no more!

I’ve made a simple board to test most of the things!

As a blind individual, I have to say that #Caturday on #Mastodon is far far more enjoyable then at #Twitter, where the vast majority of cat photos are not described.

It is also been fascinating for me to hear descriptions written by those who sent the image, immediately followed by Apple image recognition’s attempts to describe the same image. Only rarely does that add anything to the ALT, & often directly contradicts it.

There is no auto magical solution to image description. It is something best done by a human, for only that human can explain the “why” of the image: the reason that image was chosen to speak so eloquently without words for those who can see it. ALT allows you to provide those words.

has been my daily-driver distribution for many years and has a very dear place in my heart, but can we (myself included) please toss a coin to a webdev and revamp debian.org?

The first few minutes of the following video by @thelinuxcast is a great example of how confusing it is for a new user to merely discover which ISO to use:

For comparison:

Mastodon is 6 years old and grew out of a university student project. Per GitHub data, it currently has 2 consistently full-time devs, including the project founder, and 1 part-time. It is being funded out of a 31k USD/mo Patreon, and until recently was closer to 20k, which is used to pay for development, hosting of two large instances, and moderation.

Mastodon has had less funding than Block Party and is being compared to Twitter. Give it funding and time and it will catch up.

ranting about hive social

How can reasonably defend against these threats against when the transmitters are remotely activated and not guarded by a bad actor wearing a hat and trenchcoat?

📢The call for proposals for the Open Hardware Summit is here! Deadline December 16! We're looking for talks, workshops, demos, and your weird and wonderful ideas! Submit here > form.jotform.com/2231064343192

An old saying jumped out at me recently that's been sticking with me for a while:

"Don't be a critic without a solution."

Most people want to do better and you are a very smart and capable person. Maybe you're the perfect person to make it happen (or inspire others to).

This was my covid #Project, the keaboard by keawade github.com/keawade/keaboard

It's a columnular stagger split #MechanicalKeyboard with hot-swappable MX sockets and wireless capability. I've been using this as my daily driver for the last two years and I love it.

I designed it with #KiCad :kicad:, got it printed by JLCPCB, and assembled it myself. I'm really proud of it. :ac_pride:

It was a lot of fun to design and build and I learned a ton along the way. #Maker

2900 people have joined the iOS #pixelfedApp beta so far!

It's kinda overwhelming to witness the rapid growth in #pixelfed, thanks to the #twitterMigration

Pixelfed is largely a 1 man team, we don't have the amount of contributors that most other fediverse projects have so there is a lot of pressure and I'm doing my best. ❤️

For those who have downloaded their #Twitter archive data, you might want to check out this Twitter Archive parser by @timhutton:

github.com/timhutton/twitter-a

This converts your Tweet archive to #markdown and HTML, and replaces t.co URLs (which will break once Twitter goes away) with their original versions.

Afterwards, it asks if you want to try downloading the original size images.

Just ran this myself without any major issues, really easy to use as well.

Maurice Karnaugh of Karnaugh Map fame, died 11 days ago. I'm always amazed when a name like this shows up as it reminds me how young our field is. Though, he was 98!
