The USPTO has issued proposed rules that will make it harder for everyone in open source to challenge bad patents. Let them know you want a fair and open system for all, where anyone can seek a review of an invalid patent.

"The Technology Innovation Institute’s (TII) Falcon 40B, the UAE’s leading large-scale open-source AI model, is now free of royalties for commercial and research use, in response to global demand for inclusive access to AI."
Some interesting research from my alma mater: you can somewhat reliably transmit covert voice-band frequencies toward popular home assistant devices that are near passband cutoff freqs.

I just installed StreetComplete and I’ve already made more than 150 contributions to map my neighborhood!
It’s such a good example of an open-source and well-designed mobile app that makes it easy for everyone to contribute to the digital commons.
@nixCraft I don't have a favorite language for my projects because the implementation depends on the requirements and not vice versa.
KiCad 7.0.5 has been released! Big thank you to all of the folks who helped get this one out the door.
@snazzyq It's interesting how the appearance keeps changing to make them look more daunting/capable/rugged, yet they have embedded bumpers within the front fascia in such a way that a small collision would cost $1000-2000 to fix.
@bnys Leave some MNT goodies for the rest of us 😉
YMMV, but I've always had unlimited #mobile data tethering by using #LineageOS (#GoogleFi is my current carrier, if that matters). I'm supposed to have a 5GB monthly tethering cap, but the Google Fi app reports 0B at the start of every day and does not ever appear restricted even if I exceed 5GB in one day.
@dos I'm curious how many GPS satellites were within line-of-sight of your phone when you were testing this. I haven't worked with GNSS in a while, so I can't recall how WAAS stations are accounted for within GPS sensor data in Linux. I ought to reach out to some old colleagues for a refresher on how we handled it in our applications.
Also, FWIW: As a user, it would be beneficial to select between local/online/fallback GNSS data modes.
@LineageOS Is there currently any traction with OEMs adopting #LineageOS as the default image within their #Android #phone product lines? If not, what are the biggest hurdles?
stmp1 SOM appeared! this open hardware module by @olimex shall serve as the BMC for Rack Reform. we'll test that with the official devkit first.
@yurnidiot I'm usually a swipe-typer in Android (dictation when driving) but I've been daily-driving a #Librem5 Linux phone and it currently only has tap-typing available.
After @jacqueline told me it was possible, I tried 3d fdm printing a keycap for my mnt reform trackball. Went surprisingly well!
Getting it to fit was a bit fiddly and not the sort of process I enjoy, but it sure beats not having just the exposed switch...
Passionate about freedom, libre software/hardware, environmental sustainability, and doing the right thing even when it's inconvenient.
