Om en användare på .se tycker att admins borde ha blockat vissa andra instanser, då kan den användaren försöka övertala admin om det, eller flytta till en annan instans.

Om andra instanser ägnar sig åt att blocka .se för att .se inte blockat någon tredje instans, då förloras mångfalden som är en stor del av poängen med fediversumet.

Varje instans väljer vilka regler som gäller på den instansen, sen väljer användare om de vill vara där eller inte.

Märkligt resonemang tycker jag.

Det verkar som om du har missat själva poängen med fediversumet, att det *inte* ska vara ett centralt beslutsfattande om vad som tillåts och inte.

Diskussionen om vilken policy .se har är en fråga för den instansens admins och den instansens användare.

There you go. They look around at the world today and they come to the conclusion that the most important problem to solve is that shopping is difficult, we really need a way to make shopping easier.

De som ägnat sig åt att blockera din instans borde ta en rejäl funderare på hur de skadar samhället genom att försöka förbjuda för dem obekväma åsikter. De kan ju själva välja en instans där allting blockas om de själva inte tål att se någon avvikande åsikt, men att påtvinga andra deras egna fega regler är helt fel.

@craftyguy okay, it could be somthing with the dfri.se homeserver I'm on, that it does not talk to other matrix servers the way it should, I'll try to find out.

Looked for the "fossmo-wg" matrix room that you pointed to in the slides, but I can't seem to find it. Is it precisely "#fossmo-wg:matrix.org" as it says in the slides?

@Crocmagnon ok I see, in this case I think using something like pass (or ansible-vault or something of that type) would have two advantages for you:

(1) You become independent from GitHub (Microsoft). If GitHub disappears or displeases you, you can just move to different hosting of your git repos without changing anything regarding your secrets.

(2) Your secrets become more secret. After all, something is not so secret if it is known by Microsoft 😉

I would like to think that this is because FSFE somehow decided to free itself from Google, but I don't know, maybe Google's huge donation and the influence it brings will be coming back soon.

Does it mean anything that Google is no longer listed as a donor?

I've been hesitating about donating to #FSFE because the last few years, including 2022, FSFE got more than 10% of their funding from Google. I'll assume for the moment that I don't need to explain why that's bad. Let me know if you want me to explain that.

Now, looking at the FSFE donors page for the last 12 months, Google is not listed: https://fsfe.org/donate/thankgnus.en.html

@Crocmagnon I can recommend the "pass" utility https://www.passwordstore.org/ that will help you keep your stuff encrypted using gpg, having only the encrypted files in your git repo.

How do you do it now, are you using some GitHub-specific way of handling secrets?
