@terryenglish is your point that you prefer centralized system where a single central authority decides everything?
In my view, federation seems better. If a situation like you describe happens, the thing to do is either to influence the admin to change policy about blocking the other one, or else move to a different instance that works better for you. You have options, in contrast to the centralized case where you can't do anything if someone get blocked.

That kind of thing makes it clear why we need freedom in technology, we need to not be owned by Google/Apple.

@justincroser@social.linux.pizza I think what I get is more freedom and independence from Google, at the price of less convenience.
"Degoogled" Android variants give you something more convenient, more apps available and so on. But then you still kind of play by Google's rules which I don't like.
For me, being free from Google is more important, as well as being part of improving the free (as in freedom) alternative that GNU/Linux provides. I want to help with that, so I sacrifice some convenience for it.

@nikolar@mastodon.se jag tänker att det här också kan kopplas till att allt färre är medlemmar i politiska partier. De tänker, ingen annan jag känner är ju med i något sånt, så varför skulle jag?
Att tänka själv, komma fram till något man själv tycker är rätt, och argumentera för det, det är väldigt omodernt. Istället känner man av hur folk runtomkring verkar göra, och så gör man likadant.
Den här attityden måste ändras, annars kommer inte demokratin att kunna fungera.

Ja jag tror det är lathet, och med det följer en dumhet genom att folk inte tänker efter. Verkas som om folk sällan tänker en tanke som tar mer än 5 sekunder idag, istället scrillar de vidare i något lockande flöde som Big Tech har skapat åt dem.
Kombinerat med grupptryck, de flesta gör som de uppfattar att alla runtomkring gör, ingen vill sticka ut.
Inställningen att frihet och rättigheter är mindre viktigt, den är så stark nu, alla känner att det är det som gäller.
