You can argue that you want to preach to people who are on youtube, that then becomes a reason to be present on youtube. But this is matrix.org -- their own site that they (matrix) control, and they choose to lead people to youtube (Google) from there.
To me it indicates either that they don't understand the problem, or that they don't care. Either way, it looks bad.
Be on youtube if you think you must, but keep your own site clean. Don't act like you are owned by Google.
How about moving away from youtube for your videos?
When you write something about "Social Good" and at the same time lead people to youtube, that takes away some credibility.
Youtube is Google, pushing people there means giving even more power to Google. That is not "social good".
@MatejLach But systemd is in Debian now. Are you saying they will remove it?
@alexbuzzbee Yes, I think href is where the H in HTML comes from, it's what makes it hyper-text. 🙂 Without that, we just have regular text with some trivial decorations like different styles or fonts.
The #nobelprize winners have been announced this week. And here is Nobel Prize official #linkeddata web site that I built this spring in cooperation with @metasolutions: https://data.nobelprize.org/#esc_year=from%3A2021
@dsv I never need to think twice about that: fb is a frambuffer, that comes to mind instantly. 😉
/dev/fb0 First frame buffer
/dev/fb1 Second frame buffer
@civodul You mean that code should generally not be doing different things depending on what distro it thinks it is running on?
> "Mutual recognition of freedom" by Hegel
I had to look that up, found this: https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/hegel-social-political/
"Hegel defines “right” [Recht] as the existence of the free will in the world. So a philosophy of right is necessarily a philosophy of freedom that seeks to comprehend freedom actualized in how we relate to each other and construct social and political institutions."
One might add: "how we relate to each other and construct social and political institutions... and software." 🙂
Using #FreeSoftware everyday from OSes (for desktop and mobile) to a music player, I've realized the value of freedom of software and the reason why free software is not the matter of price (gratis).
Basically this is the matter of rights, responsibility, and ethics of the civil society. See "Mutual recognition of freedom" by Hegel.
It is unfortunate that free software has been mainly the topic of computer geeks and established thinkers around the world have not thought about that quite much.
@neil Things may work better if you use "apt purge" instead of, or after, "apt remove". The "apt purge" command is supposed to remove all remaining files related to the package, while "apt remove" may leave some stuff. My guess is that if you did "apt remove" and then manually removed a directory, apt believed the directory was still there. If you use "apt purge" instead, apt will know that a complete new install is needed next time you do "apt install". I think.
What do you think about the "System Transparency" thing?
I think it seems good, it lets the user decide what should be on the system from the ground up.

@neil Welcome back anytime!
I know will miss that sweet GDPR 🙂
Marina Hyde continues:
"If you give a minister a brief that encompasses the entire media, the UK’s data strategy, regulating big tech, 5G rollout, cyber-security, the charity sector, the whole of sport and the £100bn-plus creative industries, and they spend so much as ONE NANOSECOND fanning up some culture war nonsense about panto, that isn’t so much playing with the box as taking a shit in it. And nobody, other than fellow infants, wants to see that."

Marina Hyde in The Guardian is sharp and funny, as usual.
"Even so, I had to balk at the Spectator’s suggestion that Nadine “will oversee a more punchy attitude to the culture war aspect of her brief”. Sorry, but what culture war aspect of her brief?! Psychologists say that if you give a child a present and they end up playing with the box, then the toy you gave them was too complicated for them."

@joacim I wish that motherfucking website would get rid of motherfucking Google Analytics.
