@civodul You mean that code should generally not be doing different things depending on what distro it thinks it is running on?

I assume, this is @civodul's point. In addition, the code only knows a handful of distros. What about Gentoo, Guix, Mandriva, to name just a few.

@kirschwipfel @eliasr Yeah, the most flexible way would be to test for features, at configure time or run time, such as “does the linker need ‘--hash-style=gnu’?”. That would work on any system without having to hard-code a list of OSes and distros.
