The website of Reykjavík #Hackerspace, Hakkavélin, just got flagged by #Google Safe Browsing as "deceptive", and anyone who visits this site gets a huge, red, scary warning. Check it out:
hakkavelin.is/

Thing is, I happen to manage this site. It's literally a single static HTML file.

This is what we get for allowing shitty journalists to farm clicks by abusing the words "hacker" and "hack" to mean "cybercriminal" and "attack".

🚲 Pedalling our way towards a greener future!

The summer of 2023 will be a milestone for cycling. We will propose a European Declaration on #Cycling, inviting the European Parliament and the EU Council to sign up for it.

We want to make sure that all our European initiatives, wherever possible, include a cycling dimension; supporting sustainable urban #mobility plans, doubling the number of safe cycling infrastructures, or creating more bicycle parking facilities.

provides yet another cautionary tale from the : the founders created a worker owned to make radar systems to prevent mass bombing of cities from the air. They ended up being pushed by and money into a typical corporation that made key parts for missiles. And the founders were distracted by their new found . Reminds me of how the founders started out being opposed to advertising.

In reading by Malcolm Harris, provides good examples of style investment in triggering economic growth. In the , this "magic money" goes to propping up big banks that made bad loans. In a democracy, we should be able to decide where those huge piles of "magic money" go. This money could go to and or so money other things.

Has anyone seen any legal action related to generation like about the Right to be Forgotten? It seems these models can easily reproduce images they have been trained on.

Looks like once was forced out of the business of tax evasion and money laundering, they cratered. I'll bet they are not alone in that the main value they deliver to customers is dodging the law.

And that’s what these models give, at almost unlimited scale. The ability to understand and monitor billions of people with all their complexity, at a super-human level of comprehension. And I’m not talking about tomorrow: the models we have today are good enough.

One of my biggest problems with so many projects is that I cannot control when they are upgraded. Sure, this is easier for devs, but wow, it can really screw users. I was force-upgraded to a whole new rewrite of online accounting software when I was under immense deadline pressure. The upgrade broke my time tracking almost entirely. And the new version has only slowed my work. I was happy with the old version. Controlling change is key to and is often overlooked.

Project maintains their tools in , giving them a base platform delivered with and the rest of the Debian users get a better maintained Debian.

Up to 37 million tons of plastic waste is expected to enter the ocean annually by 2040.

Do you still think waste sorting is a loss of time?

We are united to fight these global challenges. With the:

🔹 Right to Repair initiative, aiming at reducing waste and allowing consumers to achieve considerable savings,

🔹 rule on single-use plastic products, which tackles their dissemination,

🔹 Farm to Fork strategy, aiming at creating a sustainable food system.

Let's make every day a #ZeroWasteDay!

Currently under development TEDective is a #FreeSoftware solution that makes European public procurement data explorable for non-experts.

"If you can’t be sure whether you’re creating a self-aware , this is alarming not just because of the moral implications of the “self-aware” part, but because being unsure means you have no idea what you are doing and that is dangerous and you should stop."

Very interesting article on how AI generated historical images help further the American cultural hegemony on the internet and in global culture.

#googlebard and #chatgpt are showing #AI is developing rapidly. It's now clear that #human #intelligence can be surpassed by machine intelligence very soon. We are truly on the cusp of #ArtificialGeneralIntelligence. We need to think this through very carefully before proceeding further.

I have just signed the petition being organised by the Future of Life Institute asking for companies to pause giant AI experiments. You can sign it here: futureoflife.org/open-letter/p

"Naja, ich war so beseelt von der Richtigkeit meines Handelns und wollte das mit meinen Freunden teilen. Und ich merkte, hoppla, da wird sofort das Abendessen abgebrochen. Auf einmal musste man früh ins Bett und hatte keine Zeit mehr. Freunde haben mit mir nicht geredet und das tun sie teilweise bis heute nicht. Sie wollen damit nichts zu tun haben."
