Interesting to see that civilisation does not need to be built on rich and poor in rigid hierachies.Teotihuacan in Mexico thrived for 5 centuries without slaves, slums, or even big differences between rich and poor. This is in contrast to Rome, Egypt, Mycenae, Greece, Babylon, etc.

I mostly use computers that are very locked down: everything over Tor, no Javascript by default, must copy-paste links in most apps, etc. I think this actually makes me more productive since distractions are no longer a single click away. We have sold out the to , which has changed it from augmenting human intelligence into drugs that appeal to our basest instincts Now those companies think its OK to do the same with . We must stop it!

I've been thinking a lot recently about the addictiveness of media, particularly of software. When users are the product, then is inevitable: such companies need to make users present on their platform as much as possible to make more money. It has gotten so severe that software has become like addictive drugs, ruining the lives of many. We as a society have forgotten that computers were invented to augment human intelligence, not turn us all into addicts.

Do you work with or support an organization with a .ORG website?
Then you should be concerned about the potential sale of the .ORG registry to a private equity firm, which would have an incentive to sell censorship as a service, says EFF's @mitchstoltz latimes.com/business/story/201

Unless you take precautions, your data is invasively tracked then auctioned off to the highest bidder.

Just the fear of #surveillance can turn us into self-censors and stop us from exercising intellectual freedom and curiosity.

If we think we're being watched, our behavior changes.

"This is why the following will apply to all (public) digitisation projects in Germany in the future: the awarding of contracts and funding will be subject to compliance with the principles of open source and open standards."

This is not true, the US Federal Government controls 55% of all government spending in the country, including federal, state and local. The EU currently controls about 2.5% of government expenditure. So in reality, the EU is much more decentralized than the USA.
