@Karlitschek explains at #FOSDEM why GPL is actually great for business (like it is for @nextcloud ), and why open source should not become closed/proprietary just to fight back against cloud competitors like Amazon, Google & Microsoft. #NextGenerationInternet

In 2020 our world is only 8.6% circular. In other words - we waste more than 92% of everything we consume. Our global engine is stuck in reverse. We've teamed up with @circleeconomy@twitter.com to explore how we can close this circularity gap.

Here is some good #privacy news: the Eu Advocate General has concluded national mass retention laws in the EU are illegal. Countries can not demand that internet providers just keep massive amounts of personal data because it might be useful some day.

I installed T-UI (Terminal based launcher - f-droid.org/app/ohi.andre.cons ) today and it instantly eliminated all check emails, check mastodon, check all messenger, check emails again habits.

I guess it's more because of the unfamiliarity of the interface than any inherent benefit to it. Let's see how this will go. Maybe I'll just have to keep changing my phone UX radically every few months.

I've been thinking a lot recently about the addictiveness of media, particularly of software. When users are the product, then is inevitable: such companies need to make users present on their platform as much as possible to make more money. It has gotten so severe that software has become like addictive drugs, ruining the lives of many. We as a society have forgotten that computers were invented to augment human intelligence, not turn us all into addicts.

Do you work with or support an organization with a .ORG website?
Then you should be concerned about the potential sale of the .ORG registry to a private equity firm, which would have an incentive to sell censorship as a service, says EFF's @mitchstoltz latimes.com/business/story/201

Unless you take precautions, your data is invasively tracked then auctioned off to the highest bidder.

Just the fear of #surveillance can turn us into self-censors and stop us from exercising intellectual freedom and curiosity.

If we think we're being watched, our behavior changes.

Let's choose an internet free of mass surveillance. #TakeBacktheInternet blog.torproject.org/we-can-cho
