@MrTWatson @blindscribe the vaccines do work but not how the media advertised it. The vaccine trains your body to fight. The training is only useful if your body gets invaded. The virus is always evolving. Infecting more people gives it more of a chance to mutate in a way that our body cannot see it. Vaccines don't increase the mutation rate. It is different to antibiotics, they directly attack bacteria, while vaccines only mimic viruses to train your body.
@Snoro New Zealand with all its Earth quakes! At least Tasmania is on the list.
@phryk then permissive licences are not FOSS. I think that's why capitalists prefer MIT and use 'open source', no freedoms involved.
The future of food: Can you eat to save the climate?
From complex labels to opaque sourcing and unclear carbon impact, consumers find it hard to know if their food choices are environmentally sustainable.

@alexbuzzbee I use devel
@be Alpine Linux also has a good webpage for their packages
@grumpysmiffy I changed my master branch to devel and it's all fine with Gitlab. Does Github require it to be main?
@ParadeGrotesque @rysiek@mastodon.technology @alcinnz they can create a file manager to do everything they want. It'll just look like a cockpit and it'll be way harder to learn than bash.
I tried apps that batch files and they are always too much work to use and the skills don't translate anything else.
@blueberry @be how far back is old? Is the latest LTS version enough and to cover 98% of active systems?
(Chrome+Safari ๐ฑ in web land)
Maybe for your project state what you are willing to support. Including up to the latest Arch build?
@dsfgs computers are not making people trans. They felt their workplace and community was hostile to trans people and they did not come out. Now they feel safer and accepted they are publicly coming out.
@devinprater@dragonscave.space @MadestMadness I'm new to coding and following your mastodon account has motivated me to want to work on accessibility. Even "big" projects have very few contributors with most people being users.
I used to just recycle, but since learning how few plastics actually get recycled, I've reduced my single-use plastic consumption by:
๐ Switching to shampoo and conditioner bars instead of bottled, and from shower gel to bar soap (like we all used as kids)
๐ Using glass containers and a set of stretchy silicone covers that fit over my bowls for leftovers instead of plastic wrap in the kitchen
๐ฑ Using reusable silicone bags instead of disposable plastic ones
๐ข Bringing my own stainless steel bottle or cup if I'm getting a drink outside of my home
๐ฆ Carrying a set of bamboo utensils for takeout (and choosing places with compostable takeout containers)
๐ Using stainless steel straws or no straw instead of plastic
๐ Buying produce without wrapping (farmer's markets are great in summer) & bringing my own containers for spices in bulk
I'd like to give a ๐ to Whole Foods, which sells in bulk but makes you use their plastic bag or container. Guess where I don't buy in bulk!
I am into science and climate activism. I love to learn about social issues and to challenge my own perspectives. I'm also into free and open-source software and I am back in University studying computer science.
