@strypey
It's intended to be installed on the device. Basically, the map client (e.g. Pure Maps) connects to your localhost to access offline map data. Just have a look.

@strypey
Is it okay if it happens to also work on a mobile form factor? ;)

OSM Scout Server + Pure Maps should do what you want.
(and is WIP for the Librem 5, too)

@macst3r Sobald sich dieser Zwang nicht mehr umgehen lässt, werden wir definitiv kein Windows 10 mehr vorinstallieren.

Proper error handling may be hard, but proper exception handling is nearly impossible.

Another WIP feature - power users will appreciate this one ;) This is unmodified GNOME Maps. It wouldn't fit on the screen, but phoc can now automatically scale its window down to make it fit.

It still needs a lot of work, but a proof of concept for window thumbnails in appears to work :) @purism

@kev @purism
Well, I didn't say you need it. There's the SD card slot.
(And the battery can be replaced, so that's really not an argument to dispose a $800 item...)
The point is more that v2 might be more convincing for people to buy if RAM / storage are closer to expectations.
Pondering whether v1 has mass-market appeal doesn't make sense to me.

@kev @purism
Few points:
- campaign price was 599, both $100 increases had a +$50 dollar "grace period"
- this is not the price the device should have - it's the investment necessary to bootstrap this kind of device. It can only get out of the niche if people are willing to invest in that vision
Personally, I'd hope that the v2 announced for end of 2020 will have more convincing storage.
