@Gina spend less time working.
@kyle damn that’s a good start for a horror story.
@Gina dayyyyyum!
@kyle indeed, the condemnation of single points of failure immediately followed by the assertion that their system/product alone solves all problems is... always a favorite
@Gina that sounds amazing!
@Gina hrm Lemmy looks like it might well do as a place to share some longer form thoughts/posts. I’m gonna have to check it out.
Decided to finish some minor restoration tasks on this antique spinning wheel I picked up at the kringloopwinkel. Now I guess I’ll be spinning the rest of this wool on the new old wheel. Much different feeling to spin on this old single treadle wheels versus my new ball-bearing equipped double treadle wheel.
@Gina pretty impractical on YT now. The ads are basically, to any of your network gear, indistinguishable from the stream you requested. DNS trickery is no longer sufficient. I would have said impossible but somewhere someone is surely doing something likely involving real-time decoding and frame analysis to drop frames that are ads before encoding it all back and passing through an ad-free stream. Gonna guess that takes a touch more power than most embedded SoCs offer yet.
Hot off the presses! @doc and @katherined talk to @kyle and Petros Koutoupis about the SolarWinds hack, and Facebook's reaction to Apple privacy initiatives.

Why FSF Endorsing PureOS Matters
"In addition to the fact that we firmly believe in free software, we also believe that having an operating system that runs on 100% free software directly benefits you and the rest of society"
Started the 2020 Advent of Code today in #Rust. Better late than never, but I've finally reached a point where I have time to think about such things.
@Gina that makes a lot more sense. I used the imaging software more than 20 years ago in my first IT gig and nearly had a heart attack at the thought of it being used today 😂
@Gina Ghost like the system imaging thingy???
I like to work with my hands. That may mean hammering out solutions to complex problems in #Python or #Rust, building things in my shop, or spinning yarn to knit something warm. You’ll likely see some of all of that here. By day (and sometimes night) I keep >13k nodes and services alive in the Electric Vehicle sector.
