The buildings full of devs he references all labored over the past two decades to reinvent the same messaging wheel, but w/ a network they owned. Libpurple plugins serve as a graveyard of proprietary chat protocols--failures to capture the market, wasted dev effort.
There's a well-known African proverb: "If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together." What Moxie's centralization talk misses is that the faults in early decentralized protocols came because dotcoms wanted to capture the market.
@johns
Because if you bought it, it's obviously smarter than you
Fuck you Instagram, hail Pixelfed! #YoMigroaPixelfed
@Gargron
I didn't know it was a feature. But thinking about it, I think I'll keep it off. I'd rather meet new people
@kyle
Yeah I do maybe two or three things with my phone: Matrix, Reddit, and Minesweeper. Matrix VoIP and e2ee is all I really need in a daily driver phone
It takes a village to raise a project.
We'd like to thank you all for joining us on this crazy adventure!
@kyle
Think Matrix (with E2EE and maybe voice) will work by the time Evergreen ships?
Overheard someone at the Target return counter returning a gift because they thought it was creepy that it listened to them. There's hope. #privacy
I just got rickrolled by @kyle
Another potential method (I didn't try it tho) use i3 or xmonad. The border patrol agent searching your laptop will be too confused to search effectively
Currently sitting in the Atlanta airport waiting for a connecting flight. I flew in from Mexico City, and I was lucky enough not to be searched by Border Patrol. Here's what I think contributed to my success:
1) A full flight that arrived at the same time as another international flight, and the more people there are going through Customs, the more likely they're not going to search you
2) I handed the agent a US diplomatic passport. Pretty easy to get waved though if you're a fellow gov type
