COVID-19 is causing many of us to stay at home and practice 'social distancing'. Use Jitsi Meet to keep in touch with friends and family as well as to hold company/team meetings and webinars. Check it out here: meet.jit.si.

@JoshStrobl Are you guys gonna collaborate with Ikey and his new company, Lispy Snake?

Then, we also have the problem of unencrypted backups on Android and server-client encrypted backups on iOS (over which we have little control) which are 'promoted'. Although, local backups are available, this is not made clearly evident and the process is not very 'streamlined' (to say the least). These issues seem to undermine our privacy despite the strength of the Signal Protocol itself. Don't you think it's time to change? (thinkprivacy.io/choosing-the-r)

'Messages that Stay with You'. Are WhatsApp messages really encrypted? True. WhatsApp does use one of the best end-to-end encryption protocols (Signal protocol). However, due to the way WhatsApp works, your messages may not be as private as you think. Firstly, we have the problem of metadata. WhatsApp can seemingly identify the types of files you send, how long you chat with someone and who you chat with.

@torproject It would be nice if you provided an AppImage for Linux downloads. It makes things much easier and cleaner. Please consider it.

@Tutanota @protonvpn @protonmail The Librem 5 is a new platform by @purism that aims to provide their users with a surveillance-free smartphone. While it still has a long way to go, many would agree that it has potential. As privacy and security oriented services, it would be invaluable for your users and the entire and community if you officially supported it. We await your response. 😀

What is your most favourite universal packaging format?

@Tutanota My system tray icon disappeared after updating to v3.67.4. I am on Linux Mint 19.3.

AppCentre for Everyone is off to a great start. With 25 days still left for the deadline, it has already more than covered its intended campaign goal. This just highlights the existing need in Linux. Consumers need high quality software and developers need a method to effectively monetize their work. A round of applause to the @elementary team. Well done! 👏 👍

We all know that is not always the prettiest solution to our daily needs. What if we could change that? What if we could motivate the developers to put more time and energy into building better, sleeker and more functional software that adheres to everything we love about FOSS? That is exactly what the Elementary OS team plan on doing. Support their cause and become a backer: indiegogo.com/projects/appcent. Please share this with others.

For those of us who play video games on Linux, the news that Rocket League will lose most of its functionality on the platform was a bit of a shock. This video offers the most radical method to handle this issue: invidio.us/watch?v=XBLCr7eeSAQ.

and are truly amazing. It just goes to show the power of a dedicated and passionate community. However, everything has its issues and we tend to lose sight of that in our propaganda. This video highlights why it is necessary to provide a 'true and fair view' on Linux when encouraging newcomers: youtube.com/watch?v=rb46F24HJM.

The is an impressive new technology that was created to support the functioning of cryptocurrencies. It is simply a large, public and distributed 'database' that uses cryptography. It is this feature of a blockchain that makes cryptocurrency 'secure by design'. Most of us in the world are already taking steps to secure our digital life. Perhaps, we should take an effort to protect our financial activities as well and may be our shot at this.

'Big Tech' is ruling over our lives so, when an alternative to YouTube called 'LBRY' arrived, some of us hopped on the band wagon to see where it leads. It has been here for some time now and it still seems to be struggling to deliver the kind of content one would expect from YouTube, Vimeo and other proprietary services. The future of LBRY seems to be bleak. Will LBRY succeed? 🤔

I wish a merry Christmas to all my followers and everyone on the ! 🎉 🎁 🎅 😄

In the wake of digital privacy becoming more important to users, organisations are forced to rethink their business models that are primarily based on surveillance capitalism. The issue for many organisations is that they are accountable to their shareholders first, which leads to a conflict of interest. What can be done about this? We must use tools from organisations that put the users' needs first, like NPOs and SPCs. Hopefully, more companies will be inpired to follow them. 😁

Here's an awesome security tutorial. Look out for Tutanota at 12:37 - looks like he's using our secure email service. 😃👇
