@delta @strypey @praveen @thunderbird @cketti I agree that should be the default for every email client. Delta shows how "easily" it can be done. Right now encrypted mail is a pain to set up if you don't understand it, which is why so few use it.

A story of a design agency only using free and open source software, from Ryan George of mastodon.art/@freehive

@MichaelAltfield @BusKillin Also, it's using Wayland in case that's relevant for the lock on disconnect option.

@MichaelAltfield @BusKillin Thanks. Yes I can see now tgat the edit federated to other servers but not !

So the Librem 5 is Aarch64 Linux device running PureOS currently based on Debian 11... so I'm understanding that it should work right? Or is the required software built for x86-64 only?

Why isn’t software funded by taxpayers released as Free Software? 🤔💻

We need legislation 📜 requiring publicly financed software to be #FreeSoftware. If it’s public money 💰, it should be public code! 👨‍💻👩‍💻

Code paid by the people should be available to the people! 🙌 #PublicCode

@MichaelAltfield @BusKillin The page on the last link (/luks-header-shredder) appears to have been deleted or moved? Was it this one or something else:
buskill.in/luks-self-destruct/

@BusKillin Could this work on a with a USB-C adapter?

Asking for someone else (not a personal acquaintance). They want the device to be wiped.

Hey, we are #newhere. Do you want to receive official emergency alerts worldwide with just one app? The #FOSSPublicAlertServer allows apps to receive near real-time push notifications via #unifiedPush about emergency alerts from over 280 official CAP Alert Publisher. This project is a collaboration of @foss_warn and @kde. The server is still under development, but we are working on a first beta version in the near future. 🚀

Stay tuned...

Traditionally #FreeSoftware projects are driven by developers or for profit companies (sometimes governments funding specific projects). Users without programming skills usually can't influence the direction of a project. People talk about developers not getting paid for developing Free Software and users demanding more from volunteers. I think we have to rethink about this model and try to address this disconnect. @prav and codema.in/debphoshfund are trying to address this.

Thinking of starting a “50 for FOSS” pledge campaign.

If you:

- Work in tech
- Can comfortably pay all your bills
- Regularly use free/open-source software

Then on the 5th of every month, you choose a piece of software you appreciate and find a way to pay $50 for it. Ko-fi. GitHub sponsorship. OSS collectives. Open an issue in the repo or email the maintainer if you have to.

We have to insist on paying for the software we use.

Does this already exist?

Software freedom is the prerequisite for many of the issues people struggle with when it comes to technology, privacy breaches, user lock-in, DRM, and hardware obsolescence. The role of freedom in privacy cannot be ignored. Support #FreeSoftware fsf.org
