For the most part #EconTwitter was a warm and supportive haven on the bird site, and I trust that this offshoot on Mastodon will prove to be the same.
Hierarchies in the economics profession: how did we get there? — @undercoverhistorian

@mmasnick it was great to get your perspective on that article.
@amoroso Thanks. Looks like I have arrived in the Fediverse.
Did you know that the European Union had an official Mastodon instance where only official EU institutions could open an account?
https://social.network.europa.eu/explore
No need to pay for a blue checkmark, accounts on this instance are, by definition, officials.
That’s Fediverse done right!
I set up #ActivityPub on my #WordPress website and it totally works, #AMA
Time for an #introduction.
I'm a sociologist at UMich, and director of Organizational Studies.
I recently published a book, Thinking like an Economist: How Efficiency Replaced Equality in U.S. Public Policy.
I'm a cancer survivor trying to figure out life in a permanently changed body.
When I can, I'm looking to the past to think about what kind of intellectual movement could smash #neoliberalism.

Hello #Fediverse!
So I've got my instance set up thanks to the awesome folks at MastoHost...
Does anyone know of a great service like this for #Pixelfed? I'd absolutely love to have one of my own, particularly as a personal portfolio type thing!
And then, my next step is writing... I want something like write.as, but my own little thing, even if it means paying someone to host it.
(Is #WriteFreely the right thing?)
For the record... Here's my #Pixelfed portfolio!
Still barren at the moment as I'm still starting out with posts.
I read this elsewhere: If trusted news outlets would start offering #Mastodon instances to their staff, that would bring some sort of verification and visibility. Think social.nytimes.com, social.heise.de etc. I'd love to read more from trusted journalists on the #fediverse and this could greatly help. (Again, not my idea but couldn't find the original author.) Boosts for visibility would be great. Reminder: Favorites don't help as on this other platform.
@ccamara I suppose you are familiar with Kieran Healy's book Data Visualization. If a sociologist is writing a book about how to code, that seems a good sign that social scientists find coding useful. I guess more generally the argument is that telling a story with data is useful for many fields, and visualizing data can be a fun and compelling way to tell stories with data.
@katherined This is amazing I had no idea about this feature. I always thought it was a huge gap compared to centralized systems but that is pretty neat way to do verification.
A tip for those who haven't seen this yet. #Mastodon has its own "#verification" system. Adding a link to your Mastodon profile from your website using the rel="me" attribute will #verify that the owner of both the site and profile are the same, and you get this nifty green highlight to show it.
New day, new #sociologists on Mastodon:

If you want to be in the list or be removed, just let me know.
⚠️ We are working to restore pixelfed.social, the influx of new users across the fediverse overloaded the server.
We apologize for the inconvenience!
This latest growth spurt has highlighted some opportunities for performance improvements that will be rolling out later this week. #pixelfed
