A quick thank you to . . . I received my about a week ago. It's great. Hardware quality is solid. Display resolution far exceeded my expectations. Nextcloud integration worked like a charm and brought over my contacts and calendar.

Received ship notification today! Thanks Todd and team for reaching for a better tomorrow!

I just realized that Purism is allowing order upgrades from Librem 5 to Librem 5 USA. The product page says that you keep your place in line. Tempting.

What the Purism January 12th shipping update didn't tell us was how far out shipments to the original backers (~2,500) are, since this is now being estimated and communicated. Will general backers be Q1? Q2? 2022?

Any news on the roadmap for Librem 5 camera support?

How can I order the next generation of the Purism Librem 5 in a way that supports further development of the platform and the security of the supply chain? Subscription program? Pre-order? Librem 5 USA?

Librem 5 Dogwood: Update 3

Wondering what's brewing on the hardware front for the . How much of thermal and power management improvements are due to hardware iterations vs. software? Re-spinning the PCB routing seems non-trivial. How's Evergreen looking?

Store may operate a type of geofencing associating your ESN with entry into the store.

All successful projects reach a turning point. Purism's transparency has brought us into the realm where determination and self doubt meet in every project. It's easy to criticize. Despite that, I am confident Purism, whose people are actually making a difference, will be successful. A commercially viable open platform has enormous disruptive potential.

I could be dead wrong. Maybe they are planning on a metal case for the mass production version.

@drewmoore @purism I think plan was always a moulded case. The early ones were probably aluminium because of the ease of going from CAD design to CNC milled aluminium in low quantity and with high precision. Changes could be made easily because they're individually manufactured. Plastic injection moulds are expensive and would not allow an easy change in design like milled aluminium. The current price is in line with a smart phone with a plastic moulded case. I'm OK with that.

@purism Will milled aluminium cases be an option someday? 😉

I assume the Evergreen moulded cases will be plastic.

I think what you're finding is that people have delayed purchases of alternatives, waiting for the Librem 5; a willingness to deal with limitations in the early batches; and even a willingness to buy a second Librem 5 from a later iteration. We're backers. We believe in what Purism is doing and will continue to support development. Thermal issues are important and we should be patient.

@timslippy @purism Consider using NextCloud. I would bet the eventual calendar app will support CalDav which will sync with NextCloud.

It would be interesting to see a statement from Purism as to whether the current implementation is immune from simjacking attacks. I suspect not, since the attack appears to be dependent on the SIM Application Toolkit installed on the SIM by the carrier.

@purism Number portability is key. I have very little confidence in carriers' ability to competently perform number assignments (WLNP/FMNP).
