Yes, as always, this isn't a question of clear right or wrong, rather a set of questions and each of them should be addressed individually. Their concern seems quite genuine to me, addressing it with "Trust me, it just won't happen 😏" and labelling them as trans-hating to apply greater pressure, doesn't feel right.
@hj @kaia
I have a friend who is TERF and as far as I understand, they aren't uncomfortable about trans person using the toilet, they mostly just don't care, but that this approach would be exploited by genuine perverts (maybe not the correct term, but let's go with it), to enter women toilets. No one expects this to be widespread even, but there is a possibility and as it always was, people want to be rather safe than sorry.
@newt
No, I won't and like I said above, you might be right even about the connector. They did introduce this new connector and they are making some profits off it — these are facts, the part that this was the original plan is what I find hard to believe and your proof is indirect and insubstantial. There is a more straightforward explanation: USB-C didn't exist — and I go with that. Little Occam's razor thingie 😜

In Russia the tradition of Potemkin villages is still kept alive 😂
@newt
> Are you high?
Did we get to ad-hominem attacks already? 😏
Listen, I'm quite a boring person when it comes to this type of arguments: companies making money is of course no conspiracy, Apple using their own connector in order to make huge profits on selling cables would be a conspiracy. And going for that explanation instead of a more straightforward one — is a conspiracy theory.

Sony was also among the companies, other than Apple, that adopter the Firewire interface, although they've been using a slimmed-down version of it, but it was still present in most of their laptops. And among the primary uses for that was transferring data from camcorders — maybe that was their designated way for doing this, not swapping cards.

@joey
I've even been using my Mac Pro to copy samples even to a SmartMedia card — to use it with Korg drum machine until I sold it, no issues at all 🤷
Sony being mentioned in this context is quite interesting — because Sony and SD cards is a relatively new development, as we all know, they've went quite a mile promoting their own proprietary Memory Stick — even in the phones.

@joey
Is this a common problem? I don't remember experiencing anything like that, but I didn't have macs with built-in card-readers — and with USB ones it works like in any other system: the partitions that are supported get automatically mounted and an icon appears on the desktop, if they use file system that isn't supported, it gives you a prompt offering to initialise/format it.

Good riddance! Never going to miss this, essentially a hack.

Pollen sufferers. Listen to Momma Annie.
You. Are. Blowing. Your. Nose. Too. Danged. Hard. 👏
I suffered and suffered though pollen season after pollen season for YEARS. Until three years ago, when I took a doctor's advice and stopped doing the full on, hard honking nose blowing. It works.
I have a short stretch where my nose runs during pollen season. I blow my nose gently for around twoish weeks, and then it stops. It. is.magic.
It's a combination of hard blowing, going in and out of air conditioning, and using decongestants for stuffy nose when the hard blowing IS the source of the stuffy nose. You're agitating the hell out of your sinuses and that causes your body to react harder with mucus and sneezing.
I keep sharing this because I know your pain. I've been there and I don't want you to suffer anymore. Please try it, loves. I promise it works. I really hope it brings you relief. 💕
@lrhodes
At this point, people want their hardware to just keep working, keep being repairable, but they are being forced to upgrade their hardware in order to keep using the software that often allows them to do the same things. That's pretty insane 😩
@lrhodes
Exactly! In yesterday's thread I describe my experience with a laptop that is over a decade old: https://breloma.m0xee.net/objects/5c58ccb2-b045-4fc3-bdeb-0cf0754fcae3
I think that is still perfect for absolute most of my everyday tasks. In modern laptops a lot of the features that I like about this one get sacrificed for more performance — performance that most never asked for. Long gone are the days when getting new computer meant serious quality of life improvements.

@newt @joey @pesekcuy
Sometimes you have to get 2 or 3 to find the one that works for you, which makes getting the original one, that is guaranteed to work, faster and cheaper. People buy original cables because they want to save their time and money — not because AliExpress doesn't exist in their cinematic universe 😉
None
Just in case: DMs/PMs simply don't exist on this instance as concept — don't use them, use the other instance if you absolutely have to, or send an email to any address at m0xEE.Net or .Com or .Org, but I prefer keep most communication public.
