But I still think that using VPN makes surveillance *en masse* harder. If they were so smart and all-powerful, you'd be something like an ant to them — not a threat. The fact that they go to such lengths scoring you and decrypting your traffic alone disproves you nice here theory.

I don't have a stake in your game, I'm from Russia and I have good damn reasons to use VPN besides making glowies busy — 8 out of 10 sites I use daily are blocked here. I just can't access them without VPN — plain and simple. And I'm not talking Ted Kaczynski fancub "How to assemble bomb" stuff — fucking BandCamp is blocked, imagine that!

@oklomsy Why don't you just use ssh-agent for ssh? I use wofi as SSH_ASKPASS so I enter my passphrase once on sway launch. It doesn't get locked when I lock screen, but I'm sure you can do even that by using swayidle to kill agent, restarting it on unlock and displaying the prompt again.

What does it have to do with what I just said? Even if they can decrypt it, they'd be wasting resources on doing that and on analyzing your cat pictures. Using VPN for everything refutes your "filtering" point. The more people use VPN the more they have to analyze and they can't analyze everything. It's the same as denial of service attack 🤷

@safiuddinkhan AFAIK there is a more open custom ROM called GerdaOS. I was thinking of getting myself one of these phones — they have 4G and can act as an access point, and that's about the only thing I really need in a cell phone 😅
There was a Matrix app too so maybe it's usable on its own, it didn't support calls and encryption at the time, but maybe it does now.
