Does anyone else find it outrageous that U.N. agencies keep removing RSS feeds for their updates while prominently featuring Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Youtube accounts on their websites? Our taxes fund these entities. We deserve open access to the content they produce.

Much of the independent web relies on Patreon to organize financial support.

The good folks at @comradery are building an ethical alternative as a co-op.

One of their rules is "no bosses, no cops". It's not meant for businesses (even nonprofits like the one I work for) but for independent creators, workers, activists, and co-ops.

I think this qualifies as "putting Rightscon's mission at risk" (https://www.rightscon.org/fundingpolicy/), since those companies are a major structural reason that privacy is impossible for many whose rights are threatened. What do you think?

Just invited RNZ (https://rnz.co.nz) and NineToNoon in particular to join this Mastodon after their weekly 'tech pundit', Mark Pesce, blithely dismissed the Fediverse as a viable alternative to Twitter in a segment looking at the implications of the Musk buy-out. I think Pesce makes most of his money by talking about the big centralised badly behaved tech behemoths, and it's in his interest to throw shade at the alternatives that don't fit his narrative & don't offer him punditry value.
