Been reading The Work of Living by Maximilian Alvarez and got to a part where he's talking to a miner about recent changes in management where managers are now disconnected from the work they're overseeing. Alvarez talks about hearing the same from a shipwright and a nurse.
Given the widening wealth gap in the USA, then if management can be defined as a wealthier class, it makes sense that new managers would come from families that have had to labor less.

@ocdtrekkie @varx Ouch! I was in that boat as well for a number of years. Now I feel lucky my employer still offers a so-called low deductible plan (i.e., most expensive monthly), because all the high deductible plans require hitting the deductible before pharmacy costs are reduced, and I have two household members that require expensive medicines.
Hey Everybody. Two of the best security communicators and practitioners I know have just launched their book,

Never heard of this. Looks amazing!
“Today, we’ve filed a class-action lawsuit in US federal court in San Francisco, CA on behalf of a proposed class of possibly millions of GitHub users. We are challenging the legality of GitHub Copilot (and a related product, OpenAI Codex, which powers Copilot). The suit has been filed against a set of defendants that includes GitHub, Microsoft (owner of GitHub), and OpenAI.”
@ocdtrekkie @lightweight In following with most of the legal precepts I've seen, where enforced, you only have to know about the concepts defined for your Engineer recertification exams, whether you use them or not. ;-)
Of course, Capers Jones and Tom DeMarco have both talked about how they make a lot of money testifying in court cases where companies fail to follow known steps needed to plan and execute a software project.

Companies’ Price Hikes Fuel Inflation. Why Isn’t the Fed Talking About It?
https://truthout.org/articles/companies-price-hikes-fuel-inflation-why-isnt-the-fed-talking-about-it/
ANSWER: "not a single reporter asked about the extent to which record-high corporate profits are fueling inflation even as companies openly boast about their pricing power."
Corporate control of the media funnels public information towards corporate interests.
@TheOneAW It's fiber, but the internet plan is limited at the level I'm buying (250 Mbps). The thing I'm not sure about is if they'll boost the bandwidth to compensate the TV usage. I doubt it'll be noticable. I actually thought I was still < 100Mbps. One thing about a coop provider is that I tend to get benefits behind the scenes, as they aren't trying to squeeze every last penny out of me.
The local cooperative phone company, that provides my phone, TV, and internet service, has been having trouble with the TV digital signal. Their "fix" appears to be to use an Amazon Fire Stick instead of a set top box and remove the separate TV feed.
It sounds like a bit of a kludge, and I wonder how much bandwidth it'll take from my internet feed.
I'll have to investigate further how it works.
A major cash cow for the health care industry are the wellness programs. Via the wellness banner, healthcare companies can collect data from you, that they can sell.
#CapitalismSucks
So...our healthcare provider has dumped a bunch of tote bags, lunch boxes, and other crap that's useless to people with our salary levels at our company's common area. Almost nothing has been taken. Hopefully someone will haul it to a local charity. It'll be quite ironic to see a bunch of local homeless people toting items with a multi-billion dollar healthcare company's logo.
