Is it too much of a stretch to believe capitalism will lead companies to create new illnesses, they can then cure for profit?

COVID-19 is considered likely man-made due to it's gain of function properties, but unlikely to be intentionally released. However, it's effects will likely be studied for potential future profit possibilities.
