I have a well-organized but inconsistently-tagged music collection, so it's frustrating that music apps rely so much on tags and infuriating that most remove file browsing entirely.
@kyle Indeed, however it might be time invest in some tagging time. Seems like the benefits of it will be felt for a long time to come. 👍
@Phaserune Yeah I think at this point it's actually less effort to painstakingly fix tags than it is to find/patch a media player.
@kyle Given OS trends (mostly though not exclusively in mobile), I'm beginning to fear that user-accessible filesystems are going to be a distant memory in a few years.
Filesystems were never especially nontechnical-user-friendly, but are damned useful.
App-specific silos are exceptionally annoying.
@kyle Have you tried cleaning up the tags? You could use #musicbrainz #picard with #acoustid for some pretty fast and decent results.
@iooioio I have cleaned tags up over the years but I haven't gone album-by-album. It's the inconsistency in tags (slightly different artist/album spelling) that ends up being the most annoying.
@kyle I have also been using picard in preperation for when my librem 5 arrives :-)
I feel that pain.
Have 24 years of music collection, it's all very well organized in folders.
But trying to play it form most music apps can be a pain because of the lack of tags.
One day i'll gain the courage to fix the tags, one day...
Update: I gave up and decided just to fix my tags. I used Picard for the first time and it made what would have been a horrible task surprisingly easy.
