Despite my many disagreements with Richard Stallman, I sincerely hope that he enjoys a full recovery from lymphoma and we have many future opportunities to discuss those disagreements.

Sometimes when it looks like there's no on one to pass the torch to, it's because the person who had it snuffed it out.

I will never get tired of hearing "the first conference I attended / spoke at was" about a conference I organized. I know I'm not alone here, so if you want to make a conference organizer's day, let them know how much you enjoyed attending an event and what impact it's had for you.

Very sad to learn of the death of Murray Stenson: seattletimes.com/life/food-dri

The Last Word, and that Sazerac flight (!) he made me, among others, were just the best. I'm happy to have met him, and still amazed at how genuinely friendly and curious he was. It was inspirational to me how readily and unselfishly he shared his knowledge.

It's pretty cool that a bank can have unadvertised immutable ACH daily and monthly limits, that you don't know about until you hit them. And no way to send a wire transfer without physically visiting a branch (which may be multiple states away). You could use a paper check, if you had one, which you have not needed for any reason in...a long time -- and certainly shouldn't suddenly need one to transfer money *to yourself*.

Yes, we are your bank, and our job is to not give you back your money.
