"#NASA’s need for high-quality scientific software has led it to #OpenSource developers, and now to an ambitious new program based on the larger principles of #OpenScience."

Excellent profile of a committed agency.

Top cited AI articles since 2020 were all written by Microsoft, Meta, Alphabet-aligned researchers. Only exceptions: 2 articles by prestigious academic institutions… and the one on stochastic parrots by Timnit Gebru et al. (That really backfired on Google)https://www.zeta-alpha.com/post/must-read-the-100-most-cited-ai-papers-in-2022

#Starchart now federates!🎉
Starchart is a software forge spider and search engine that federates and periodically publishes its index. Simply put, Starchart is the decentralized, non-#GitHub alternative to https://awesomeopensource.com/

Wow so the #Apple lobbyist speaking at the @EU_Commission #DMAWorkshop on #AppStores refuses to answer my question why his company should get to decide what software runs on their devices -- after he spent 15min doing PR blah blah about how #iPhone is the best. 🤦
Over the last few months, I put a lot of work into the @fdroidorg app. Here's what's new: https://f-droid.org/en/2023/03/01/new-repo-format-faster-smaller-updates.html

“Where does a man get inspiration to write a song like that?” Grace Kelly asks in Rear Window, overhearing a neighbor’s new melody. “He gets it from his landlady once a month,” Jimmy Stewart answers. (ht Stephen Marche https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/65147063-on-writing-and-failure)

This past few months at the other site has me convinced organizations should 100% do whatever they need to do to build outreach capacity independently from social media sites.
Make a newsletter, a zine, a big Signal group, whatever you want. But it should be yours, so it can't just be bought or taken away.
From a discussion on a major #HigherEd forum by a senior campus leader,
"We are a #Google school…"
If the comment was, "We are a Coca-Cola school," I suspect we'd hear concerns: marketing products to students, corporate influence in #HigherEducation, even health & safety/quality (all BTW applicable to Google).
If you believe Google (or #Microsoft, #Adobe) is a "global standard," the same case can be made for Coca-Cola (Pepsi). I doubt stating such an alignment would be so promoted.
The real future part is that I can now also add my phone (PinePhone) to the mix, sharing keyboard and mouse between all 3.
And now I have yet another way to be confused about which machine I'm working on / saving my work on.
Set up Barrier to share keyboard and mouse between my desktop (yes I have one) and my laptop. Had to generate the SSL cert manually as per https://github.com/debauchee/barrier/issues/231#issuecomment-1232536022 and also manually make the server config as per https://github.com/debauchee/barrier/issues/1421#issuecomment-1038501497 (subbing the actual client and server names for the all-caps placeholders there). It's been about 15 years since the last time I did keyboard/mouse sharing, but it still feels like the future!
