I am really looking forward to hearing Shannon Dosemagen speak as a #LibrePlanet2020 keynote on her work for the environment with Public Lab using free software tools. Work that previously received an FSF award: https://www.fsf.org/news/environmental-activist-shannon-dosemagen-joins-fsf-conference-keynote-lineup
@mako is one of the big thinkers about software freedom. I like the following two essays a lot.
"Infrastructure is very important for free software, and it's unfortunate that so much free software development currently relies on sites that don't publish their source code, and require or encourage the use of proprietary software." https://www.fsf.org/blogs/sysadmin/coming-soon-a-new-site-for-fully-free-collaboration
Good to see that progress within #Fdroid https://f-droid.org/en/2020/02/16/statistics_2019.html
More reason why nonfree apps (and their Web sites!) shouldn't be trusted with the personal information of every voter in the country -- whether that's Israel or anywhere else in the world. https://u.fsf.org/2-v
Apple canceled the project to encrypt iCloud backups two years ago due to pressure from the FBI because it "would deny them the most effective means for gaining evidence against iPhone-using suspects" #privacy
It is time that people understand that #Apple is in no way better compared to the other big tech companies. Like all of them, they have to comply with US law. Also their business depends more and more on adds and analyzing their users with AppleTV, AppleMusic, Siri, etc... Trusting black boxes and highly closed and regulated ecosystems will not bring us more #privacy and freedom. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-apple-fbi-icloud-exclusive/exclusive-apple-dropped-plan-for-encrypting-backups-after-fbi-complained-sources-idUSKBN1ZK1CT #nf
