This past few months at the other site has me convinced organizations should 100% do whatever they need to do to build outreach capacity independently from social media sites.
Make a newsletter, a zine, a big Signal group, whatever you want. But it should be yours, so it can't just be bought or taken away.

@getalifemike Well, no, if parking permits are sliding scale, then they can cost quite a bit more at the top end, generating more revenue for public transit overall. Plus, you get much more equitable discouragement from "car dependency".
@getalifemike That would certainly help, but I guess if you had the political clout to ensure the revenue was used that way, you might also have the political clout to do something with no regressive component, like make the parking permit-based and sell permits sliding scale based on income or value of car. I know at least some countries do traffic ticket amounts based on income.
@getalifemike Concerned that this is regressive (rich people can park, not rich people can't).

From a discussion on a major #HigherEd forum by a senior campus leader,
"We are a #Google school…"
If the comment was, "We are a Coca-Cola school," I suspect we'd hear concerns: marketing products to students, corporate influence in #HigherEducation, even health & safety/quality (all BTW applicable to Google).
If you believe Google (or #Microsoft, #Adobe) is a "global standard," the same case can be made for Coca-Cola (Pepsi). I doubt stating such an alignment would be so promoted.
The real future part is that I can now also add my phone (PinePhone) to the mix, sharing keyboard and mouse between all 3.
And now I have yet another way to be confused about which machine I'm working on / saving my work on.
