Social media platforms help us to stay connected with each other and the world. What went wrong is that in a bid to grow their engagement metrics and revenues, social media channels started to track, monitor and control their users’ behavior. They manipulate the users’ thirst to their advertiser’s ends. So what's the way forward? Read more ➡️ puri.sm/posts/the-future-of-so

Catch-up with @kyle at the LinuxFest Northwest on April 24. His talk will explore how he uses OpenSnitch on his mobile Linux device. Apps have a bad habit of snitching on their owners. While this is a much bigger problem on Android and iOS, it's still valuable to detect when apps phone home on Linux. Get the details: linuxfestnorthwest.org/confere

:boost_ok: :ablobcatwave: Please boost this post if you would like the EFF to join the fediverse. :ablobcatbongo:

In a survey the EFF sent me, I suggested they create an account on the fediverse, so they can reach more supporters and support innovative free software that promotes interoperability among platforms, something they've advocated for in the past, too.

If you can boost this post, maybe I'll be able to show them that there are quite a few users who would like them here!

The EFF is the infamous nonprofit organisation that fights for privacy, government transparency, and digital freedom. Their fight is very important, and the EFF is very special to me. https://www.eff.org/about https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_Frontier_Foundation

You can see some of their work here https://www.eff.org/work

In the meantime, you can follow @eff, which is an unofficial mirror of their Twitter.

I've had a leg in both Twitter and Mastodon for years now and post simultaneously in both. I prefer Mastodon in basically every way. The main thing that keeps me on Twitter are folks who aren't (yet) on Mastodon.

The recent phoc upgrade in @debian broke touch/mouse input for all qt apps. There is a patch and @mobian will do an emergency upload to mobian's repo, testing if it fixes it.

It is much more difficult to hide backdoors in free software, especially long-term, writes President of Purism, Kyle Rankin (@kyle) in his new post ✍️ puri.sm/posts/freedom-from-coe

Exciting times! I'm entering the next stage in my journey to bring freedom, security and privacy to more people by assuming the role of President of @purism! puri.sm/posts/as-purism-grows-

It's hard to believe it's been a year since I replaced my personal computer with a and laptop dock. In this post I talk about my impressions, the docks I've tried, and using my Librem 5 as a tablet. puri.sm/posts/my-first-year-of

#FirefoxESR on #PureOS on the #Librem5 has (finally) been updated to 91.6. This renders the installed firefox-esr-mobile-config package non-working, but while we're waiting for an update to land, you can (assuming you have git and build-essential installed) just do the following:
`git clone gitlab.com/postmarketOS/mobile
`cd mobile-config-firefox`
`make`
`sudo make install`.

Firefox may need one (or more) restart, but after that it should look like in my photo:

Do not let technology run off with your humanity!!!
