Regulations are concise rules that apply equally across the board.
Porn cannot be posted on Social Media, would be a regulation.
All social media must implement age verification and cannot allow users under a specific age, would be a regulation.

@gardiner_bryant
Nobody that I know of is making the argument that TikTok is a free speech platform. That is a straw man argument.

@gardiner_bryant
1. I was simply arguing that the bill is authoritarian. Whether or not you agree with the bill does not change the fact that it is an authoritarian bill.
2. Disallowing app stores from distributing it is effectively banning it.
3. Saying that an app should not be banned is not the same as saying that it is 100% impervious to regulation. That is a completely bad faith argument on your part.

@gardiner_bryant
The bill uses the force of law to prevent people from accessing information presented by free will of the publisher and accessed by free will of the consumer.
It is by definition authoritarian.

@hodgetwins I oppose granting the government the authority to ban TikTok as it will inevitably lead to the misuse of power, resulting in the banning of various other apps and websites.

Or, for the baseball game, sneak in your own water. For the printer, use pen asnd paper.

@foone Not entirely true. If the browser were invented today, it would be allowed until it got popular. Then it would be deemed a security risk three weeks before Apple released their own version.

@gardiner_bryant
Yep. There are definitely no monied interests in government that would make regulations that would help big businesses while hurting smaller open source projects with no money.

@gardiner_bryant
Right now, in the heavily regulated banking industry, banks get dinged on there audits for using open source software because it is "less secure."
I don't think the regulations will go the way you want them to go.

Three things America needs:

- Secure borders
- Safe cities
- Sensible spending

My niece told me today that she had grown one centimeter. I asked her what that was in American.

Just found out that it's possible to donate to Phosh here: liberapay.com/Phosh/

I work for an msp that has several banking clients. I can tell you from experience that they get dinged on their audits for using open source software.

I introduced a bill to end the Department of Education.

We must return the money and authority back to states, school districts, teachers, and parents before it’s too late.

@signalapp
I have two reasons that I do not use signal.
1. You require my phone number. You do not need my personal identifying information. As long as you require information about me that you do not need, I will not trust that you are as secure as you claim to be.
2. You do not use a federated system. If I could set up my own signal server and communicate with friends on your server, I would be more willing to trust the end to end encryption.
