I don't dispute that jails are hard to break into, but they are even harder to break out of. How many of us would choose to live in a prison in real life? Instead we make risk assessments that balance personal freedom and security, and the digital world should be no different.

On this day in 1776, the British hanged Nathan Hale. His last words were NOT, "I would speak out, but it would cause me personal and professional harm."

@herag
I've been pinephone only with mobian since march. There are some definite issues and draw backs, but you could not pay me to return to a google phone.

No, I haven't. But if it is not accessible to screen readers, that might have been considered a first clue that the phone is not ready either.
Yes, I will continue to posture on researching products before you spend money on them. It does not matter whether you have any disabilities or not, you should always research to see if the product you are buying will meet your needs.

If you are going to rely on people working for free in their spare time, then you are going to get what they choose to work on first.
You are not entitled to their labor. They are giving of their labor freely.

On their website, just abovevthe add to cart button they specifically say, "Beta Edition Pinephones are aimed solely at early adopters."
This has never been put forth as a finished product.
If the developers who are working in their spare time at their own expense are not working specifically on the functions that you want and you do not have the technical expertise to do it yourself, then find someone who does and help fund them.

The pinephone is a testing product not an end user device. Mobian is barely a year old. While it is the most daily driver ready OS (at least from my research) It has a long way to go before it is ready for prime time.
Again, the developers are working free of charge in their spare time. And yes, they will probably work on the things they need first. Then they will most likely work on the things the the majority need. Special needs will come.

@zens@merveilles.town @devinprater@dragonscave.space
Microsoft has the opportunity to create a finished product. Software-wise the pinephone is nowhere near a finished product.
I am a person with fairly normal needs and I spent weeks trying to determine if the pinephone was something that I could use daily. When I finally bought mine I still wasn't sure and knew I could end up buying a paperweight.

@devinprater@dragonscave.space
Said another way. Someone with special needs did absolutely no research to determine whether the product they were purchasing could support those needs. When the product inevitably did not, it is the fault of the programmers who are working free of charge, despite the fact that it is not yet even a finished project that could be recommended for most people without special needs.

Boost if you won’t shop at businesses requiring vaccine passports.

#Pinephone #Mobian #MMS via #Matrix (mini) #Howto:
1. Sign up for two matrix accounts
2. Remove chatty, install kop316/mmsd and untidylamp/mmmpuppet
3. Configure mmsd for your carrier and mmmpuppet for your matrix accounts
4. Set up services to start them on boot
5. Do the mms thing with a matrix client like fractal on the phone or element on the web.

It is also possible to run the matrix server locally on the pinephone if you install it from pip.

I'm looking for a privacy respecting GPS bike computer. I'm not interested in pairing to an Android/iPhone smartphone, I'm trying to get rid of mine! I don't want to have to register to an online account or install a program on Windows or macOS, as I run Linux at home. I want to be able to upload map updates (OSM preferred) and download gpx traces from a regular file browser through USB... Cadence monitor compatible a +.

Mission impossible?

Thx!

Rand Paul on further lockdowns and mandates:

"Resist.

They can’t arrest us all. They can’t keep all your kids home from school. They can’t keep every government building closed – although I’ve got a long list of ones they should.....

We don’t have to accept the mandates, lockdowns, and harmful policies of the petty tyrants and feckless bureaucrats. We can simply say no, not again.

@Secftblgirl
It's exactly what I would do if my employer tried to enforce a vaccine mandate. I actually interviewed for a new job lastvweek and it was one of my questions for them. I'd rather not get the job, then get it and gave to start looking all over again.

If you love the “tranquility of servitude” better than freedom, “Go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.”

― Samuel Adams
@Jdogg247 I’m not getting the vaccine and I am ready and willing to literally physically die if the government wants to cross that line in the sand.

Imagine if you could file a digital restraining order against tech companies. If a creepy person follows you any time you leave your house, looks through your mail, and watches you from the street whenever you're at home, you can legally make them stop. Why not companies?
