US lawmakers are asking to restrict American participation in RISC-V "to prevent China from gaining dominance in CPU technology". The request is misguided. I wrote a letter to the US government on the subject:

bunniestudios.com/blog/?p=6862

I'd appreciate if anyone can help amplify or route the message, so that US rule-makers can better understand the issue.

If you don’t agree with my stance, I encourage you to also send a letter expressing your views, so your opinions can be heard.

Today is a huge day for Apple II software preservation. With the help of Antoine Vignau and @txgx42, we have managed to recover, make playable, and archive renowned game designer Dani Bunten's first game, Wheeler Dealers. Released in 1978/79 and published by Speakeasy Software, a small Canadian developer, Wheeler Dealers is a multi-player stock market simulation that only sold ~50 copies. It is the first (known) computer game to have been sold in a box. The game was considered lost until now.

Playing with Renoise and monomes on the #MNTReform laptop (A311d CPU). The latency seems to be enough for a live setup, but I wish there were more plugins for ARM #Linux systems.

I gave a talk at Open Source Firmware Conference this year, Reproducible Builds All The Way Down:

Slides available:

salsa.debian.org/reproducible-

It was well received, highlighting many historic #ReproducibleBuilds issues in firmware projects that I maintain in #Debian and touching on the hows and whys of Reproducible Builds.

Open Source Firmware can be a great example of 100% reproducibility, with a narrow scope of code, and is often a key part in early system boot!

Is your laptop upgradeable? Mine is! I got this upgrade in the mail last week.
This A311D module adds WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0, and bumps the CPU performance a lot, going from 4x ARM Cortex-A53 cores on the old module, to 2x A53 and 4x A73! Roughly doubled the performance of my computer, and now I also get to use bluetooth headphones 😎🎶

Company: we sell open-source hardware!
Also company: we only provide schematics

...ok, so by that logic, I suppose my IBM PC from 1983 is also open-source hardware
