I've been essentially off Twitter for almost a year now, and Mastodon has become an increasingly rich, diverse replacement. Many of the gaps that were here a year ago are filling in.
I still miss the extensive breaking news coverage and official government and org accounts I remember from Twitter.
When I've mentioned this in the past, zealots here have suggested I shouldn't want those things and that they'd somehow ruin this "community".
I disagree. We can have those things without Nazis.
Så en illvillig person (inkl illvillig främmande makt) skulle kunna åka runt i landet och slänga ut smittat kött lite här och där i skogen och därigenom i princip lamslå landets skogs- och träproduktion, grishållning och fläskprodukter, allt friluftsliv, bärplockning, svampplockning med mera. Och liknande skulle kunna göras i stora delar av Europa. Och skulle då lösningen bli att i princip ge upp all grishållning för mycket lång tid, eftersom vildsvin alltid kommer att finnas.

Prompted by last week's discussion I started about bad Firefox performance on Ubuntu and several people's suggestion that I might want to consider that Ubuntu may be the problem (https://federate.social/@jik/110998835781468447), I decided on a whim this past weekend to install Debian on one of my laptops.
My verdict: Debian's a solid desktop OS for hackers, but I don't think it's a good choice for non-techies and probably won't become one.
