Is this the first copy of "The Best of Hack and /: Linux Admin Crash Course" by Kyle Rankin in Sweden?
Arrived to me today. Published in USA in April, printed on demand in Europe. The topic is of interest to me (although likely some chapters too advanced for my needs), Kyle has good knowledge about the topic and is a good writer and finally I am curious about testing how print on demand works. @kyle #linux #books
I installed Snap on Debian 11.6 because I wanted to use a software temporarily that was only available as a snap. So now, when done, I have uninstalled both applications and snap itself. Snapfree. Maybe snap is good, but I try not to complicate too much for myself. Beside standard Debian package format (.deb). I use AppImage and a few FlatPak. So far I prefer AppImage over FlatPak and FlatPak over Snap, but first hand I use Debian package format. That's me, you are free to differ. #Linux
I have installed Waydroid on my Linux Debian 11.6 Xfce (Bullseye). That seems ok. But nothing is seen when I launch it. As I understand it is because I run an X11 session and not a Wayland session. I have to learn and explore more, I believe it can work. An experiment for tomorrow or another coming day. I am a Linux user, not expert. Learning in progress!

Det finns alternativ till Apple iOS och Google Android. Jag har gjort en personlig genomgång.

Chrome OS and Android are based on the Linux kernel. Hence they are Linux operating system.
But at the same time, "we" often do not count them in same family as CentOS, Fedora, RHEL, Debian, Mint, Ubuntu touch, Mobian and so on.
But how come? How do we distinguish between Chrome and Android vs the other; how is the separation defined? Or do you disagree with the starting point?
Anyone who has experience of Volla mobile phone with Volla OS and/or Ubuntu touch OS?
I think I recall the crowdfunding, although I did not join. Seems as Ubuntu touch has come far to become a real OS. Nevertheless, both those OS have the same fundamental problem with important apps (like BankID and Swish) that only are available from Apple and Google store, requiring two phones. But very tempting phone! https://volla.online/en/index.html #mobile #Volla #VollaOS #GoogleFreeAndroid #UbuntuTouch #Linux
I got an e-mail from Apple today; Upgrade to macOS Ventura. With a link how to upgrade. And the compatiblity list told me what I knew - my machine is not supported for Ventura. So, does it mean Apple knows my OS but not machine model? Else the mail should have encouraged me to buy a new machine also, not only tell me the great (?) things I will not get. Anyway, my upgrade path is likely to Linux Mint instead! #Apple #macOS #LinuxMint #Linux #WalkingToLinux
I have started to use #DisplayCAL to calibrate my monitor. It seems to be very competent, far more compentent than I am on the calibration topic. But I think manage to use it. I use it with my Spyder 5 colorimeter. I have noticed a few issues which I think are related to that I have installed DisplayCAL in form of a #FlatPak on #Linux, a container method to install software, it should need some more openings (sw permissions) than default. Recommended sw! https://displaycal.net/ #photography
The Hypnotix IPTV player, developed by the Linux Mint team is good. Far from all IPTV streams works well (they are based on lists that always needs to be maintaned). But for example CNN works normally very well. It's very easy to launch Hypnotix and select CNN (from USA), and it streams well into my computer in Sweden. https://github.com/linuxmint/hypnotix #Hypnotix #IPTV #LinuxMint #Linux #OpenSource #FOSS
A friends friend use Windows 8.1 on his/her computer. It will not be supported anymore and is told to upgrade to Windows 11. But the computer cannot manage Windows 11.
So my friend has convinced and will assist to install to try Linux Mint 21.1 instead!
"Linux Mint 21.1 switched to the Bibata mouse pointer theme from Abdulkaiz Khatri."
I have used it for a while. I have not decided if I like it better than the old one or not. No big deal.

Distrohopping. On my ThinkPad T430s I replaced elementary with LMDE 5. On same drive I also have Debian 11 Xfce and Mint 21.1 Cinnamon, and on a separate drive Windows 10. I managed to do the installation without messing up anything else on the machine! I want to explore to get a feeling how LMDE 5 (Mint based on Debian) is compared to Mint 21 (based on Ubuntu9, comparing with both on Cinnamon desktop. #LMDE #LinuxMint #Linux #OpenSource #FOSS #distrohopping

The upgrade to Linux Mint 21.1 (from 21) was like a short summer eve walk. Nice and joyful. I like Linux Mint Operating system! #LinuxMint #Linux #FOSS #OpenSource https://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=4454
I installed Linux Mint operating system with full disc encryption. To do that, I must also choose between LVM and ZFS. I selected LVM as I have used that before and has worked without any issue. But maybe the ZFS file system (I suppose that means instead of eg ext4) would have more benefits, but then I have to learn it. What would be your choice and why? #Linux #LinuxMint #LVM #ZFS #encryption #fileSystem https://www.hemrin.com/walking-to-linux/369-installation-linux-mint-21-advanced-options
I recommend the PIXLS website for anyone who shot photos. It includes a list of free and open software for Android, iOS, Windows, macOS and Linux. Of course not exhaustive, but a good start. I use several of the listed softwares. #photography #photo #software #FOSS #FLOSS #OpenSource #Android #iOS #Windows #macOS #Linux https://pixls.us/
