@hehemrin I’m running #LinuxMint on both my 2013 MacBook Pro and my 2014 #MacBook Air. I’ll be dual-booting macOS and #Linux on my 2014 27” #iMac as soon as I get a new SSD.
Pro Tip: before erasing #macOS, #calibrate your display with the advanced settings turned on and save the .icc file to apply to your Linux installation so you get accurate colors.
Pro Tip 2: Be aware that first-gen 27” 5k Retina iMacs will only support 4K resolution in Linux
@RockyC Thanks! And it is encouraging. So far I only have Linux on Lenovo ThinkPad and IdeaPad. But I have noticed there are older iMac on second hand market at relatively low prices (also macbooks, but they tend to be in a less good state). Thanks for the pro tips!
@RockyC
I agree. My first Apple computer was and still in use is macmini 2014. I was tired of issues with Win Vista and possibly hw. Macmini works well but now I'm tired of the walled garden so walking to Linux. So I doubt a new Apple again, but an older with Linux is somewhat tempting.
@hehemrin I used to be a staunch Apple supporter until they started soldering all the RAM and storage to the motherboards. All Macs except the Studio and the new Pro are now appliances - it’s impossible to upgrade or repair any of them, and I refuse to purchase any computer that I can’t fix myself.
