@libreoffice it is obvious that the situation today with "Google Docs" and so on is bad for people's freedom and bad for the independence of individuals. People should be using free software on their own terms, instead of being exploited by Google.

I would expect LibreOffice to be able to say so, but when you associate with Google I guess you will not say it, you will pretend like Google is good because Google gives you money.

Do you honestly not see the problem here?

I just don't get it. Look at what Google is, their whole business is based on exploiting people, in large part using "free" things that are not really free but paid for with invasion of privacy.

Look at "Google Docs" that is dominating so hugely in the world today, the idea being that Google tracks your every move when editing a document. This is totally opposed to the freedom that I want, and the freedom that I want to believe that LibreOffice wants.

@libreoffice but I will give you my opinion anyway, in case you are open to influence from others than Google:

Google's dominance is extremely harmful for anyone who wants freedom regarding the use of technology in the world today. What is good for Google is bad for freedom.

It is very easy to understand why Google wants to associate itself with something like LibreOffice, it helps Google's image very much. But what is the upside for you? You are now on "team Google"?

I feel betrayed..

I was considering donating to LibreOffice, now I guess there is little point since you anyway have the support of Google, and I guess you also get Google giving you advice on your development. You don't need my money, when Google has so much more money to give you.

Perhaps you also don't care about my opinion when you have Google's opinion, Google is so much more powerful.

@nikolar@mastodon.se kan vara ett exempel på att det som styr oss människor oftast inte är "jag gör det som är rätt och bra att göra efter att ha tänkt igenom saken", utan snarare blir det oftast så att "jag gör som andra runtomkring mig gör".

Jag tänker också på Sverige som stat, Sveriges oberoende, säkerhetspolitik. Ur det perspektivet borde det inte anses okej att vara beroende av företag som Google/Apple på det sätt vi är nu.

Om de företagen skulle vilja utpressa Sverige, tänk vilken makt de har över oss.

Jag vet inte om de gör något sånt.

Man kan ju hoppas att de är rädda för skandalen det skulle kunna bli om det kom ut att de hade gjort något sånt.

Men om du är ansedd att vara en "terrorist" eller en politisk dissident, då kanske det är annorlunda, då kanske en stat kan tvinga (och/eller betala) Apple att göra något sånt.

Man kan jämföra med vad "Pegasus spyware" kunde göra: "Think of it as if you've put your phone in someone else's hands."
Då var det för att någon utomstående installerat malware för att få den kontrollen, men när det gäller Apple självt så har Apple den kontrollen redan från början. Det är ju Apple som bestämmer, inte du.

Apple kan t.ex. veta din personliga kod till ditt BankID, och Apple skulle kunna göra en inloggning i ditt namn genom att fejka interaktionen med dig, din iPhone skulle kunna kommunicera med BankIDs servrar precis som om du hade gjort inloggningen själv, BankID skulle inte märka någon skillnad.

OBS att en app (i detta fall BankID-appen) aldrig kan göra någonting direkt, appen gör bara saker via operativsystemet. Om appen vill visa något på skärmen så sker det via operativsystemet, som bestämmer vad som faktiskt visas. Smma sak med touch-input, annan input, och samma sak med nätverkskommunikation.

Exempel på saker Apple kan göra:
- de kan köra en annan app istället för BankID, något som ser ut som BankID men är skapat/modifierat av Apple.
- de kan veta vad som visas på skärmen
- de kan registrera var du trycker på skärmen
- de kan visa dig en sak och bakom kulisserna göra något annat

Ja.

Om vi tänker oss exemplet att du har en iPhone, då finns det tre aktörer:
- Du själv
- BankID (Finansiell ID-Teknik BID AB)
- Apple

Om vi nu gör antagandet att BankID själva är duktiga, hederliga och pålitliga.

Då menar jag att du fortfarande kan bli lurad, av Apple.

Note the "GNU-like" there, that's because it's not always GNU, like postmarketOS is not GNU, instead based on Alpine Linux. While PureOS, Mobian, Manjaro etc are GNU/Linux distribtions. 😅

Jag skulle ha velat se starkare skäl under rubriken "Men varför ska man ha något annat?" Du konstaterar helt riktigt att två gigantiska företag får insyn i vad du gör, men OBS att de också får *kontroll* över vad du gör. De kan hindra dig, och de kan utföra saker i ditt namn.

T.ex. om du har BankID i en Apple/Google-apparat, då kan Apple/Google logga in i ditt namn. Du är ägd av dem.

Det är en enorm sårbarhet i samhället att vi har det här beroendet av Apple/Google.
