The main point, I guess, is that the FSF works for the public good, while those companies do not.

@fsfe On the topic of Free Software alternatives for smartphones, note also the #librem5 by @purism and the #pinephone with operating systems like #pureos, #postmarketos, #mobian and others that take a more radical approach. Instead of just "freeing your android", they choose skip android alltogether and instead build something that is built to be free from the ground up. Does the #FSFE support such efforts as well?

When I placed my order, in Oct 2020, the order details said "Pre-order, estimated to ship Dec 10, 2020". Then for a while my order was "estimated to ship on Feb 15, 2021". Then it was "estimated to ship on Apr 15, 2021". Then "estimated to ship on Apr 18, 2021".

I think you mentioned at some point that you don't control how the crowdsupply thing works, but this is still a problem.

When I said "speed up" that was a joke, but it's also a little bit serious. The serious part: looking at the crowdsupply page today, it says "Orders placed now ship Jun 18, 2021." So you would need to speed up if you were to meet the expectation created by the date of the crowdsupply page.

In Sweden, programming is mentioned in the "läroplan" nowadays as part of the math and "teknik" subjects, but it's not clear yet what it should mean in practice. Some math teachers teach some python coding, I tried that as well when I was a teacher, tried to teach the kids about things like variables and loops and so on, but I was not sure where to start..

I think the combination of the following two things can explain it:

(1) There is unfortunately not much high-quality journalism going on at all nowadays, about any subject. The few journalists who are in a position to do good work need to write about "big" topics.

(2) The topic "GNU/Linux" is unfortunately not big enough, most people (including journalists themselves) don't understand what GNU/Linux is, or what software freedom means.

I hope both of the above will change. 🙂

You certainly seem more principled than those who never answered, I'll give you that.

However, I did get the impression that you considered it okay to use false/misleading sources, you seemed to prioritize "winning" and getting a strong impact over being fair and correct.

I would expect someone principled to agree that it's very important to be fair and correct when attacking another person like the open letter does.

When you are attacking another person and using something false as a basis for that, you are doing something wrong. If you did that by mistake you should take it back and apologize.

If you will not apologize after doing something as bad as that, then please, at least do not call yourself "principled".

That post about "The GNOME Way", saying "GNOME is principled"... I understand that was written in 2017 so it was before the open letter, but now, today, do you really think that "GNOME is principled" is a reasonable statement?

For me "The GNOME Way" seems pretty far from being principled.

I'm sorry but this does not seem right. "GNOME is principled"?

The GNOME Foundation, along with many GNOME-affiliated people, signed the open letter to "remove RMS", a harsh personal attack citing misleading sources. When this is pointed out to them, they do not apologize, they do not retract, mostly they just look the other way and pretend like nothing.
