@eff As far as I can tell, Google's plan means that citizens of countries sanctioned by the US can no longer develop Android software, as Google can't legally accept their payment to become approved developers even if the developer is willing to go through the process. No matter if they are dissidents against whatever regime the US disapproves of.

@eff This is a cause for concern for business develops like my team. We build internal apps and decoy them via MDM software. Never used play store or Google dev account. This could block us deploying our apps so it's been raised with the hardware manufacturer of the Android handheld scanners.

Big news! 🚨 More countries opt for #OpenSource to protect their digital sovereignty.

@eighthave This is and has no longer been true for a while now.

AppStore is full of ads. OS full of pseudo- anonymized (this can't be a thing) tracking. And next up is a plan to add ads to maps apps. Oh well

's makes worse than iOS because Android users are Google's product. Users attention is sold to advertisers. 's business model is selling the device and integrated services, which means its users are its customers (although Apple still plays with selling their users too).

Android currently allows users to opt out of being sold by Google. Once they lock down the ecosystem, that will become less and less possible.

The #EDIC #DigitalCommons, launched by France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Italy, reflects a shared ambition: building the foundations for a strong, open and sustainable European digital landscape. The Sovereign Tech Agency’s experience in strengthening open digital infrastructure directly informs this work, having developed structures and programs with international reach and impact.
