Does anyone happen to know whether the old data of #identica users that weren't migrated over when it switched from #StatusNet to #pumpio has been archived anywhere? I see a mention that there was a plan to upload it to @internetarchive, but can't find anything more than that. #fediverse #ostatus
Things don't "fall into the public domain" at the end of their copyright term, Ugh.
Once released from copyright, works Ascend into the glorious ranks of the public domain, fulfilling their rightful destiny as part of the cultural heritage of humanity!
@grzeeesiek @rail_ I tak dobrze, że nie wybiegł ciuchci z naprzeciwka z wyciągniętymi ramionami by pomóc jej wyhamować 😆
@foxyoreos @bnewbold @cwebber Yeah, I mean, if mastodon.social decides to lock their users up, people there will lose access to about 70% of the current network - that's disruptive enough to stir things up. If Bluesky does it, it will be day as usual, aside of some nerds like us getting somewhat angry for a while. You get permissionless backup of the old network, but all the people you used to follow are now closed in a silo anyway and they'll stay there until they get other reasons to leave.
@bnewbold @cwebber > The bar we are shooting for is to convince people that atproto is legitimate and useful even if Bluesky and the team adopt the worst of intentions.
Oof, that's a high bar. The protocol itself may still be technically useful, sure, but Bluesky could tomorrow block access to its PDS and relays, disallow migrations, stop digesting data from other PDSes or even completely drop atproto - and the vast majority of now locked-in users wouldn't notice.
@aeva The only thing that matters is that it's a set of utils and abstractions that I, specifically, considered useful at some point while making games; representing the way I, specifically, think about coding and managing them.
Though I don't really make an engine as a hobby, it just happens as a side product of taking a common denominator of my games that were (mostly) made as such.
@stfn Fair enough! Just wondered if there were some hidden reasons to not do it, as my knowledge about AP is still mostly theoretical.
@stfn If what you wanted was bot hosting, have you considered exposing an ActivityPub actor directly from the bot rather than hosting an external instance?
@pavel @badrihippo @tripplehelix @jacobscharmberg I'm not and seems like I misread the table at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spectral_efficiency#Comparison_table indeed! 😅 Networks tend to disable 3G due to that reason so it passed the sniff test. Thanks for doubting!
I can somewhat excuse #itchio for not resolving #fediverse handles with #WebFinger, effectively limiting their support to (not all) #Mastodon instances even if their reason to not do so is rather silly, but this coming out of #Valve's resourceful #Steam is just ridiculous.
@badrihippo @tripplehelix @jacobscharmberg Also, your operator probably disabled EDGE long time ago as it used more spectrum than pure GPRS at low efficiency (and spectrum is precious for newer access techs), but left GPRS for compatibility with many 2G M2M modules out there.
@badrihippo @tripplehelix @jacobscharmberg Pure 2G data is circuit-switched and even my old 2G-only Nokia 3410 could access the Internet. GPRS introduced packed switching on top of 2G, hence 2.5G. Then you got EDGE as 2.75G, UMTS as 3G, HSPA/HSPA+ as 3.5/3.75G. It gets messy at LTE upwards which didn't technically count as 4G as deployed but was marketed as such anyway.
@wolfpld It sounds silly, but it makes sense. I used it in a stop motion game where frame deltas are usually rather high and liked it. Self-contained animations in a well-known file format with simple decoding API, ability to tweak compression strength per frame (including mixed lossy and lossless frames), disposal, blending and alpha channel... If what you want is a short video, you can just use short videos instead.
@swordziak @wariat No był to jeden z powodów dla których przestałem aktywnie korzystać z Twittera 😛
@agx @newbyte @craftyguy @cas ...and now Bluesky has finally caught up after its weekend outage and my boost of phosh's post appeared there as well:)
@wariat @swordziak Na Tweetdecku zawsze się dało ustawić kolumnę z tagiem.
@brie Nic prostszego!
