And here are the results of the battery discharge profile.
The outcome will make it into firmware v1.3.
The discharge happened at ~650mW or roughly 0.05C which is about the average discharge in most apps.
This yields a battery runtime of roughly 11-12h with moderate use (no WiFi).

Who needs PowerPoint? I create my presentations using KiCad.

@nevali What I meant was: make their uplink 2xISDN-like, but keep the downlink as you proposed. Uplink is genuinely useful for developers dealing with remote servers after all; and so is flaky slow downlink to keep your own dogfood edible:)

@nevali They could get faster uplink, let's not be sadistic - say, two channels of ISDN.

@sos For anyone confused: C preprocessor operates on plain text; it doesn't know that it's in an extern block, so it's exactly the same inside and outside 🤓

@karatekid@mastodon.social The project went through many difficulties, which has been frustrating for everyone (I got my own order late as well!) and I'm not happy with some of Purism's communication around that, but there's also a lot of FUD flowing around. The phones *were* being shipped to customers back in 2019, I was helping them with their issues myself; the final revision was ready in the middle of 2021 (and likely would be in 2020 if not for COVID). Things were constantly in motion, even if very slow.

@karatekid@mastodon.social The price needs to cover not just hardware, but also software and support - and even the hardware costs alone skyrocketed because of parts availability and resulting smaller production batches. L5USA had a completely different (and more costly) production line and in turn could be produced in extremely small batches on demand, unlike regular L5 - and at this point both are available within weeks since the L5 queue is almost cleared.

@karatekid@mastodon.social "Why?!" - it's really simple, the original price wouldn't be sustainable. The world has changed since 2019 and software work isn't free (gratis) either. Also, although it's not really related to the price, the specs *did* actually change a bit - it's 802.11ax now instead of n ;)

"if you get a phone at all" - there are no problems with that, the last batch covering all remaining orders has been already produced and is being shipped out right now.

@lukeshu It should charge from 0% to 100% in about 4-5 hours. Is that not what you're seeing?

@linmob @lukeshu @devrtz "The device is definitely not friendly to every charger" - it should be friendly to every PD or BC1.2 complaint charger that can provide enough current at 5V.

Not every charger is complaint though 😣

RUN THE DISHWASHER TWICE.

When I was at one of my lowest (mental) points in life, I couldn't get out of bed some days. I had no energy or motivation and was barely getting by. I had therapy once per week, and on this particular week I didn’t have much to ‘bring’ to the session. He asked how my week was and I really had nothing to say. “What are you struggling with?” he asked.

I gestured around me and said “I dunno man. Life.” Not satisfied with my answer, he said “No, what exactly are you worried about right now? What feels overwhelming? When you go home after this session, what issue will be staring at you?”

I knew the answer, but it was so ridiculous that I didn‘t want to say it.

I wanted to have something more substantial. Something more profound.

But I didn’t.

So I told him, “Honestly? The dishes. It's stupid, I know, but the more I look at them the more I CAN’T do them because I'll have to scrub them before I put them in the dishwasher, because the dishwasher sucks, and I just can’t stand and scrub the dishes” I felt like an idiot even saying it.

What kind of grown ass woman is undone by a stack of dishes? There are people out there with
actual problems, and I'm whining to my therapist about dishes?

But my therapist nodded in understanding and then said:

“RUN THE DISHWASHER TWICE.”

I began to tell him that you're not supposed to, but he stopped me.

“Why the hell aren’t you supposed to? If you don’t want to scrub the dishes and your dishwasher sucks, run it twice. Run it three times, who cares?! Rules do not exist, so stop giving yourself rules."

It blew my mind in a way that I don’t think I can properly express.

That day, I went home and tossed my smelly dishes haphazardly into the dishwasher and ran it three times. I felt like I had conquered a dragon.

The next day, I took a shower lying down.

A few days later, I folded my laundry and put them wherever the heck they fit.

There were no longer arbitrary rules I had to follow, and it gave me the freedom to make accomplishments again.

Now that I'm in a healthier place, I rinse off my dishes and put them in the dishwasher properly. I shower standing up. I sort my laundry.

But at a time when living was a struggle instead of a blessing, I learned an incredibly important lesson:

THERE ARE NO RULES. RUN THE DISHWASHER TWICE!!!

@kyle You'll make it less likely to drift by enabling Galileo and BeiDou constellations and uploading up-to-date almanac/ephemeris data: source.puri.sm/-/snippets/1207

@affe_null Is your idea to write it for systemd-less distros? Because systemd can do it now for free (user timers can be allowed to wake the system up).

The LKML has adapted to the situation at camp.

We are passing these around the table.

Do they look fine @torvalds @gregkh?
