Services and governments requiring use of Android/iOS applications is a very recent phenomenon and I don't think it's too late to resist that yet.

@simonjust @Gina There are devices out there that are functional without relying on Android. I've been using them as my main phones for the last ~18 years (first Neo Freerunner, then Nokia N900, now Librem 5). Other people are currently using PinePhones, OnePlus 6/6T, Pocophone F1, Pixel 3a and a few others.

Truth be told, for quite a while even with laptops you had to put some effort before going shopping to ensure you'll have a good experience with GNU/Linux.

@simonjust @Gina You can't do that with *any* mobile OS, open or not, and you absolutely certainly still won't for a good while. It's not a good goal to target.

You can already use it on specific well-supported devices, or work on supporting other specific devices well. That's how you can make a tangible difference today.

@Luigi311 This seems about the same as on Librem 5 then with its 4-5 hours of active use. It's idle time that's more challenging there.

@pi_crew I took about the same time to do it on my N900 with PyGTK a decade ago (it was a very simple REST API), but I don't have any Nextbike stations nearby anymore and haven't used it for several years now...

@gnuntoo @fisherdude If you're talking about GTK4 apps, run them with MESA_GLES_VERSION_OVERRIDE=3.0, otherwise you'll have them use GL through llvmpipe.

@rysiek @mkljczk Yeah, I totally get that. I just wanted to react to hand-waving it as just your usual FLOSS infighting, bad communication, overpassionate nerds being overpassionate nerds etc. as that's very much not what it is.

@rysiek @mkljczk So has the one I do, it gets tons of flak, but it hits somewhat different when it's not some random confused "fan" but the main face behind a well-known project that threatens you personally to hamper your professional carrier just because they didn't like getting their bullshit corrected.

And I wouldn't bother to reply if it was just about me. It's an established pattern.
