Meta handed over a user’s messages about accessing abortion medication to law enforcement. This has been happening since before Roe was overturned.

@ntnsndr Oh, darn. I thought I had read that some email marketing systems were contributing lower read counts to the new privacy features. I had some similar issues with my newsletter, but I thought it was just some people not looking in their junk folder or something. (Emailing some separately and asking if they got it.) Hmm.
@ntnsndr @todrobbins How many of your readers are Apple users? The new "Mail Privacy Protection" feature will stop view tracking from working. https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/use-mail-privacy-protection-iphf084865c7/ios Anyone else who has external content loading turned off won't appear in view tracking too.
@SomeGadgetGuy Ha! They want a social status label perhaps.
@bump
An email list server with a private web archive like Mailman3 suite? Tons of open source projects and other groups have been using those since the 1900's. Doesn't get much more evergreen than that. Will work with clients from 30 years ago and 30 years into the future. If the kids like chat UIs, you can install DeltaChat for that.

You can mess with the Apple II demos here:

Emulate them in your browser!
Ooh, open source digital payment system sounds nice! https://taler.net/en/principles.html #FOSS
@picofarad I forgot to do it, so I had to ask for it to be added in the follow up prompt. :)
@mike Ah ha! So the transport network is relevant after all? :) Yes, I feel the same way. Federated open stuff is so much better.
@mike Yes, because these networks are connected and that's how it should be. How do you send messages to TikTok or WeChat or WhatsApp or Instagram or Signal or Discord or Slack users from here though?
@mike Seriously? Do you have 1000 messaging apps on your phones? :) I don't have time for that anymore! Haha
@mike Yeah; choose person, type message, press send. It would be nice if the networks were connected to each other though.
@atomicpoet It can do all the same things Matrix does though. My understanding of the Fediverse was that it was a network of public social networks. I would say Matrix is a messaging protocol. Oh well, it's not important.
@atomicpoet Does Matrix really count as being part of the Fediverse? If yes, then so would email, right?
