... and that is why you should run your own cloud.

"Most of the cloud is controlled by just four corporations – Amazon, Microsoft and Google in the US, and China’s Alibaba. Goldman Sachslast year said these four hold 56 per cent of the world public cloud market..."

#Cloud, like water, should be #commons.

Vine was the perfect millennial social media apparatus because it's more relatable to be stuck in an infinite amount of hellishly stupid 6 second loops than envision any kind of narrative with a future.

@purism Thank goodness!! Maybe a SIM card, too, right? :)

Those claims are baloney, right? I seem to remember having to send Apple my life story just to use an iPhone.

@kyle I hate that! I gave them a spam-bucket address, but I think they also have my spam-bucket phone number too.

People who don't care for accuracy like misusing terms, accepting wild numerical estimates or ever stopping being curious, what do they actually care about when it is justified by caring priorities?

@nextcloud Is there a Mozilla Thunderbird add-on like that in the works?

@professor_stoke It's a bit buggy for me right now. Can't transfer the account to a Windows machine (it crashes).

@tux I often just use my own FTP server. Support for that has been built into Windows Explorer for decades. Tell them paste this URL into Windows Explorer and copy/paste files into the window that appears.

@kiri I removed that button as soon as it showed up!

♲ @drifa@yiff.life: One thing I really hate about my culture is its fetishization of competition. We create needless competition in business, sports, politics, etc. Why? It is destructive, it creates more losers than winners, and it wastes resources that could be better used to solve our collective problems. Proponents claim it spurs innovation and achievement. Bullshit: it spurs cheating and gaming the system. Competition of *ideas* is better served by *cooperation* to study them.

@switchingsocial@mastodon.at I started using Delta.Chat after reading that thread, and that should probably be listed when the iOS app gets a little better. The Android app is pretty good already.

@oscarhall@mastodon.technology Which color though? :)

@purism I see some problems. Poor navigation placement for phone usage and mystery meat navigation. Hamburger buttons have been proven to reduce usability many times over. Also see: pocketnow.com/8-ways-to-tell-i

@polly @switchingsocial@mastodon.at Ooh, Delta.Chat sounds nice! I guess OX Talk uses some of that. github.com/open-xchange/ox-tal Someone should integrate Jitsi with Chat over Email and we might be all set!
