PLEASE BOOST: Right now Mastodon is only receiving appr. $21,000/month through Patreon.

This is not enough to handle the 1 million new accounts that will be made this week.

Currently, only 4,720 patrons are donating to Mastodon.

However, if everyone chips in $2/month, this will ensure the continued survival of Mastodon!

One thing that's getting a little lost in this mix, is that some of the people desperately holding on at Twitter are because they are trapped by either healthcare or visas.

That there are systemic traps that trap worker in America so they feel unable to move freely to new employers who want them and would have better pay or conditions is *nuts* and deserves a lot more attention than it gets.

lettuce.wtf doesn't look super healthy right now, but I think it's probably still a good bet at this point

Why is it called "crossposting" and not "tootpaste"?

Yay, @rakulang now lives on #fosstodon!

Over the last few years, I've gotten really obsessed with #rakulang – I really believe it's just about the best language out there for writing #foss (and just an expressive and fun language in general).

So I'm really happy that Raku now has a home on the fediverse right here on our very own #fosstodon :)

I hope you'll join me in giving them a warm welcome!

Babe are you ok? You’ve barely batched your >1000 RPCs

There is a simple proposal for an integration between Github and Mastodon for profile verification: github.com/community/community

It feels like the goal of the past 20+ years if distributed computing should have been to move the base abstraction away from “server”.

Do we need a "which lasts longer, Twitter or this head of lettuce" tracker at this point?

It occurred to us that we never did an #introduction - and we've been here a whole 24 hours. We're #RaspberryPi. We're from #Cambridge, UK, where we design and make tiny #computers and #microprocessors. We've sold more than 50 million of our computers in the last ten years: you'll find them everywhere from hackspaces and schools to the #ISS, tracking penguins on glaciers and automating factories.

So far we're really liking it here.

Love the idea that @Raspberry_Pi account is hosted on its own instance running on a Raspberry Pi.

Every Mastodon explanation is like "It's very simple, your account is part of a kerflunk, and each kerflunk can talk to each other as part of a bumblurt. At the moment everyone you flurgle can see your bloops but only people IN your kerflunk can quark your nerps. Kinda like email."

Did you know that the European Union had an official Mastodon instance where only official EU institutions could open an account?

social.network.europa.eu/explo

No need to pay for a blue checkmark, accounts on this instance are, by definition, officials.

That’s Fediverse done right!

Remember this picture every single time you hear someone in your city say "we're not Amsterdam." This was #Amsterdam in the 1970's. The cities we admire made better choices regarding cars, and are still making them today.

Better choices instead of excuses.
