@jesscourtney Yeah mastodon.social blocks all twitter replicators by policy, if you want to use any of those you will have to move servers

Ok another weird request to help me debug bird.makeup: can you reply to this post with Gifs? (hopefully cute or funny)

I want to see how various servers encode gifs. Bonus point if you can do from something else than mastodon too.

@luis@ursal.zone Postgres! Although a rather old version than I'm gonna upgrade soon

Mastadon admins should make a script that bulk deletes spam posts they can call it a......toot brush

I have a truckload of interesting queries I run on the bird.makeup database. I want to make the result of those available on the website so that the community can enjoy them too.

I've started adding some on bird.makeup/About . So for now the number of fediverse users and of followed twitter users. I want to add the list of most followed accounts and the most followed per server too!

@gpollara Nothing to do on your end, things update automatically

@PhilGastwirth Not for now but eventually I will setup a Patreon! Thanks 😄

@gpollara @ivory Because I'm not using the official twitter API, but the one they use internally for the web page. They can't kick me out without breaking their own site!

Just pushed 2 tweaks to bird.makeup: There is now initial support for QT. In this first iteration, a link is added to the quoted thread. I'll add something more sophisticated later on. Second tweak is to make gifs work correctly

So it looks like Twitter has banned all third-party clients this morning, but bird.makeup is unaffected.

So this mean that for example Tweetbot users could switch to @ivory + bird.makeup to get back the lost functionality. A loss to the Twitter network, but a gain for the fediverse.

If I could help indirectly the mastodon app ecosystem to grow like that, it would make me quite happy!

Happy Friday the 13th

All third party Twitter apps stopped working yesterday 🫠

👋 Hi, this is the official Medium account on our new instance! This is our home on @me.dm, where we’ll be boosting writers and publications, sharing stories, and trying to deepen our understanding of Mastodon and the fediverse.

To get started, we thought we’d share this list of resources about getting up and running if you, like us, are new here: scottlamb.blog/list/f4843d1cc8

@kevlin @cwebber described ChatGPT as Mansplaining As A Service, and honestly I can’t think of a better description. A service that instantly generates vaguely plausible sounding yet totally fabricated and baseless lectures at an instant with unflagging confidence in it’s own correctness on any topic, without concern, regard or awareness even of the level of expertise of it’s audience.

@mrcippy Yes! Some sysadmin knowledge required though. There is a link on the homepage for the code

Discourse 3.0 has arrived, with integrated chat. This is the magical third version, a major milestone! As always, 100% open source and free! 🎉 blog.discourse.org/2023/01/dis

Something you'll see on social media is young people post "look what I made" and some layperson or novice will rip into them about how easy and basic it was, then an industry professional will say it's better than most of their coworkers and they'd get hired on the spot as at least an intern.

Commenters online are miserable bores.

Thinking about making another fediverse replicator like bird.makeup but for Instagram. It could be nice especially with @pixelfed clients that support stories.

Scrapping Instagram is waaaaay harder than Twitter though.

@drewdevault@fosstodon.org You should put a link to status.sr.ht/ in your nginx error page! Could be helpful
