Just finished the first project in the book I am using to learn Python called 'Python Crash Course' (by Eric Matthes). It's a great book and I recommend it for anyone who is interested. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ ๐Ÿ˜

@waywardchild@mastodon.online @Tutanota ๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿ˜‚

I made a small game completely with Python using Pygame. ๐Ÿ˜

@Tutanota Awesome! I was looking for a good gift I could give to my friends and family. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ

Technology as it Should Be

"The power of control by Big-Tech in the app store is but a small example of exploitation of our digital lives. If you donโ€™t control the software, the companies who wrote that software control you. You become a digital prisoner."

@tristan957@mastodon.social I took this from the link to the blog post provided by protonvpn@mastodon.social in this thread.

@u_urban @Tutanota Sie haben wahrscheinlich die AppImage-Datei heruntergeladen. Sie mรผssen sie ausfรผhrbar machen, bevor Sie sie ausfรผhren. Folgen Sie dieser Anleitung: itsfoss.com/use-appimage-linux. Sie kรถnnen Tutanota auch als Flatpak von hier herunterladen: flathub.org/apps/details/com.t.

@thelinuxEXP Have you checked out ? It's a great contender for this spot as well.

@sindastra I thought the same thing when I first saw this toot as well. ๐Ÿ˜‚ I applaud @Tutanota for fighting the good fight, though. Keep it up! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ

@Shadowstreik@mstdn.social @protonvpn I just noticed that they are already working on it. It's still in beta, though.

One week to go until #BlackFriday. Let's choose to *not* join this hype! ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ’ช It's just a method by marketers and advertisers to keep you buying. That's why we are saying no to Black Friday. Instead we are offering fair prices all year round: tutanota.com/blog/posts/black- #CyberMonday

Librem 5 Visual Walkthrough

"With the Mass-produced Evergreen phone now starting to ship, we put together a video walkthrough of the launch software as well as an overview of the final hardware."

@hinton @purism I agree. They do a really great job at marketing it.

The General Purpose Computer In Your Pocket

"What makes the Librem 5 special is that it reclaims the full potential of what phones should have been all along: a general-purpose computer in your pocket under your control."

@sindastra @Tutanota Yeah.... I agree that Matrix still has a long way to go. I myself don't like it very much in its current state. I also dislike the interface of Element. Yet, it does show promise. Hopefully, it will become better as it matures.

Also, I don't think you have to worry very much about unintentional backdoors, unless you are worried about targeted surveillance or something like that. If you kept the software relatively up-to-date, you should be fine. Am I wrong? ๐Ÿค”

@sindastra @Tutanota This particular piece of potential legislation doesn't concern Linux. It only concerns communication platforms that use end-to-end encryption, like WhatsApp and Signal. If it does come to pass, I think a more suitable course of action would be to host your own Matrix server. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

The EU Council is pushing for encryption backdoors to messenger apps such as WhatsApp and Signal to fight terrorism (German article): fm4.orf.at/stories/3008930/

Despite the fact that errors of investigation in Austrian authorities had made the attack possible in the first place and not a lack of digital surveillance powers. Politicians must start to understand that more surveillance will not lead to more security. That's why we fight any attempt for an encryption backdoor: tutanota.com/blog/posts/why-a-
