Don't know why I didn't add this before, but now awesome-humane-tech has a dedicated #Fediverse section.

The grassroots nature of the fediverse, its culture and the openness of the protocols used, such as #activitypub make it the 'land of promise' for humane technology with regards to social networking.

It's #awesome!

I hope Comradery ends up as promising as it looks. A co-op for ongoing creative support instead of having to use Patreon. Personally, wanting to focus more on my writing and having more options in the future for being financially supported is exciting.

Is anyone familiar with the project called LibreSocial? They are building a p2p social network that is decentralized, privacy-respecting, and extendable.

I would be very interested to read a comparison of Fediverse vs. LibreSocial (vs. Solid?) projects, to understand their different goals and different approaches to common goals.

Mark Zuckerberg is now worth $100 billion. Another reason to switch to the fediverse: stop fueling this massive global inequality

"The cash was flowing in, and companies around Silicon Valley and beyond adopted the same basic strategy: first, grow the user base as quickly as possible without worrying about revenue; second, collect as much data as possible about the users; third, monetize that information by performing big data analytics in order to show users advertising that is narrowly tailored to their demographics and revealed interests; fourth, profit."

When you're about to swipe away a notification on your phone, and just as you move your finger down, a new one pops up, everything slides down... and you've just dismissed a notification you haven't read yet.

Was it an important email? Which app did it come from? You'll never know.

Infuriating.

Two on-site job postings added today: puri.sm/jobs/ more (including remote work) will get posted in the future.

Pixelfed Loops is a Vine inspired experiment based around short looping videos, the beta launched in early 2019.

We have decided to retire this experiment and focus on an improved layout inspired by TikTok.

I am deleting my Facebook account on September 1.

I designed a special page on my website and a drip marketing campaign style series of posts for my friends on Facebook. I know this isn’t Facebook, but I will crosspost the content here.

SpaceBear is a managed hosting service that makes it easier to create your own PixelFed, Mastodon, PeerTube or HomeTown instance.

Managed hosting means SpaceBear takes care of the technical stuff, while you own and manage the instance.

You can follow SpaceBear at:

➡️ @support

Their website is at app.spacebear.ee

(HomeTown is a fork of Mastodon which includes support for non-federated posts.)

Yeah, Mastodon is certainly better than Twitter, but you know what would make it even better?

If Mastodon got end-to-end encryption for DMs before Twitter did.

A quick reminder that just after he founded Farcebook as "thefacebook", Mark Zuckerberg said its users were "dumb fucks". Why? Because they trusted him to protect their privacy:
